"Wonderful! This is the most unique hotel we’ve ever stayed. Matera is pretty special and this hotel 💯 adds to the charm. It’s old world feeling but with all the modern things we love. A great common area, daily (and plentiful) breakfast and beautiful patio to enjoy their wine and charcuterie. They welcomed us with a glass of wine which was classy after a long car ride. Great bedding/pillows/towels and daily housekeeping. We slept with our window open every night (3 total) and you could hear a pin drop the town is so quiet. Convenient to everything and lots of good restaurants close by. I would use their car service recos … we used Uber and they are not as familiar with Matera which is difficult to drive, park etc."

"We could not have enjoyed our stay more. From the moment of check in to our check out, the staff at Thymus were incredibly helpful. They provided a list of recommended restaurants and then offered to even make the reservations. We were able to enjoy two fabulous dinners. This is a fabulous hotel in a perfect location!"

"Such a unique property…truly a once in a lifetime experience staying in a cave hotel. If you want a 5 star hotel then look elsewhere; however, if you want charming, family-run old world charm, this is your place. The gentleman (and his dog) who ran the place were very kind and welcoming. The location was amazing with one of the best viewpoints of Matera steps outside of our door. Short walk to central square and restaurants/shops. We parked at a parking lot outside of ZTL and walked in (lots of stairs so be prepared)! Cave room was unique. Only thing (which was mentioned in prior reviews) is that room is a little damp (& sheets get a little damp) from the humid conditions of the cave, which we were prepared for & did not think was a huge problem. Great stay! And Matera is amazing!"
