A charming, very special gem in the Basque mountains, far from the hustle and bustle. Andoni, the friendly, unassuming host, has created something extraordinary. He speaks Basque, Spanish, French, and—good for us—sign language. If this had once been a sheep barn, I would have loved to be a sheep there. Everything you need is there, fully equipped, and leaves nothing to be desired. Highly recommended *****

Peaceful and Beautiful

This house is incredible. I've never stayed in a place as beautifully crafted and in such a beautiful rural setting. We cooked 4 nights as well and found the kitchen and outdoor grill to be well stocked. Our group was a family of 4 - kids were 18 and 14 years old. During our 5 nights stay we visited the nearby French Basque towns (including Espelette), we day-tripped to San Sebastian, went to Bayonne, Saint Jean de Luz, and Hendaye. Really fun week!

Beautiful house

We loved this house and appreciated the work that had gone into building and furnishing it. Lots of wood in the structure and fittings and an excellent standard. Andoni lives next door and is a very attentive host. The only problem we had, when arriving, was not following his Google map instructions on the location. Once we realised what to do, we went straight to the house! The house is very well equipped, comfortable and has lovely surrounding garden and views. Plenty of outdoor seating and tables for eating. It would be particularly good for children as there are swings and a slide to play on. This area is has beautiful scenery and very pretty towns and villages and we were perfectly located to explore.

Tranquil stay in special French Basque region

We could not have asked for a more ideal vacation or a better host. Andoni Garbisu is an exceptionally friendly and helpful VRBO host. Of the many regions we visited during our month in France, the French Basque region is definitely our favorite... and much of that is due to the beauty and comfort of the home at Anikunborda and the graciousness of Andoni. If you enter ANIKUNBORDA as the “destination” on your cell phone’s Google Maps app, you will have no problem finding the house. My recommendation is to arrive before sunset because the roads are winding and narrow and it is much easier to navigate in the light. But once you’ve arrived, you will feel very secure in your ability to find the home again (assuming you have mobile GPS). The GPS with which many rental cars are equipped will NOT work to locate the house. The highlights of our three days in the area were our trip to Zumaia where we had an exceptional Air BnB “tour experience” with Angel Patricio in the Zumaia Geopark; our half day in Hondarribia and other half day in St-Jean-de-Luz were also favorite experiences. For a beautiful beach and shopping, visit Biarritz (great linens at Jean-Vier plus a great Oceanside promenade walk). And, of course, there is the truly exceptional cuisine of the area – particularly a restaurant we found called Ostalapia near Ahetze and the pintxos of nearby Spain (Anikunborda is literally a few minutes drive to the Spanish border). San Sebastián, about 45 minutes away, is famous for its inventive pintxos cuisine, but we also had wonderful pintxos in smaller towns like Zumaia, Hondarribia and St-Jean-de-Luz—and they were much more affordable. Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing, and highly interesting vacation in the very special Basque region. Thank you, Andoni!

Idéalement situé sur le GR10, ce gßte est super agréable. On s'y sent vraiment bien. La vue est magnifique sur les montagnes tout autour. Et Andoni est un hÎte trÚs accueillant et sympathique.

Ancienne bergerie Ă  Sare

Nous avons sĂ©journĂ© dans la magnifique bergerie d’Andonie. Le sĂ©jour s’est trĂšs bien passĂ© et Andonie est un hĂŽte gentil, discret et serviable. Sa bergerie correspond en tout point aux photos et descriptif de l’annonce. Toute la famille a hĂąte de pouvoir y retourner et profiter de la magnifique vue sur la Rhune et du poĂȘle Ă  bois. L’emplacement est idĂ©al et trĂšs reposant au calme.

Magnifique Bergerie

La maison est magnifique trĂšs belle et trĂšs bien dĂ©corĂ©e. Elle est bien situĂ©e pour visiter le pays basque. Le plus du poĂȘle Ă  bois. Nous avons eu tout le bois nĂ©cessaire ainsi que pour l'allumer. C'est un endroit trĂšs calme et la literie est excellente. Merci Andomi pour votre accueil.

Sehr schön

Wir hatten zwei traumhafte Wochen in dem großzĂŒgigen Ferienhaus. Besonders positiv ist uns die Möglichkeit zum Draußenkochen aufgefallen, dort gibt es eine Art Backblechpfanne, die gasbetrieben ist und auf der man herrlich alles mögliche kurzerhand zusammenbrutzeln kann. Von diesem Grillplatz hat man einen wunderbaren Ausblick auf die baskischen HĂŒgel rundherum. Der Garten ist mit BĂ€umen und Blumen liebevoll gestaltet. Die Ausstattung des Ferienhauses ist praktisch und enthĂ€lt alles, was man benötigt; viele Fenster sind mit Fliegengittern ausgestattet. Der Vermieter, der nebenan wohnt, ist ein freundlicher Mann, der niemals aufdringlich gewesen ist; wir konnten bei ihm auch BettwĂ€sche und HandtĂŒcher mieten. Im vorderen Schlafzimmer ist ein Fenster mit Fliegengitter, dafĂŒr ist das Bett etwas kĂŒrzer als gewohnt. Wir haben uns in dem sehr sauberen und ordentlichen Haus sehr wohl gefĂŒhlt und sind nach unserem Urlaub einmal runderneuert und glĂŒcklich zurĂŒckgekehrt.

J'avais déjà eu la chance d'occuper cette bergerie en étant le premier locataire de Monsieur Garbisu. Depuis toutes ces années, je voulais absolument y revenir, ayant gardé un excellent souvenir de cet endroit, de cette région et de la gentillesse de Monsieur Garbisu. Quel bonheur d'avoir pu retourner à Sare et dans cette location précisément. Tout est parfait : la maison avec ses équipements, sa personnalité, la beauté des paysages, la tranquillité et la gentillesse des gens. Un endroit parfait pour une semaine, ou plus (!), pour se ressourcer.

Schönes Haus in schöner Umgebung

Unsere Woche im Mai war leider nur gelegentlich von Sonnenschein verschönert. Trotzdem hat uns der Aufenthalt gut gefallen, denn das Haus ist auch bei schlechterem Wetter schön. Wir haben alles vorgefunden, das wir brauchten. Alles war Àsthetisch und in gutem Zustand. Die Umgegend fanden wir ebenfalls sehr schön. Nicht nur Bayonne sondern auch Sare und weitere kleine StÀdte. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Location sare

Super...... Nous sommes allés plusieurs fois dans le pays basque ,souvent vers la cÎte ,mais c est la premiÚre fois que nous étions plus à l intérieur et là le bonheur.. la nature à l état pur, un peu comme chez nous..(FinistÚre, brut ,vrai),bien situé, et l accueil du propriétaire super.allez les yeux fermés.
