"Barnacle Resort Stayed 3 nights at the “Treehouse Private Village” in the Barnacle Resort on Big Pine Key. I really enjoyed my stay, the property is quite nice, and very private. One of the attractions on Big Pine Key is seeing Key deer, which astonishingly wandered around the resort property several times a day. Don’t touch or feed them, very illegal, but you can get quite close, as they are fairly tame.It wasn’t clear when I made my reservation just where the room was on the property, since the pictures mainly showed the larger building. As it turns out, my reservation was for the separate, smaller building next to the main house. The “Treehouse” was completely private, and has its own kitchen and full bath, which I really appreciated. There are three or four available rooms in the main building, along with the common areas for dining, etc. So be sure you have the correct room information when you book your stay.There were a couple of things I had to deal with, like the TV wasn’t plugged in, no power outlets in the kitchen for the coffee machine (ran it off the floor in the main room), but really nothing major. And the host responded quickly to any questions, plus I think there’s folks onsite for anything that might be needed.All in all, I was quite pleased with my experience there. If natural beauty, privacy, and location close to Bahia Honda State Park and Key West are at the top of your list, check this place out."

"Windows do not open so you can't hear the ocean. Ice maker didn't work. Only 3 beach chairs that recline for all the rooms and 1 is broke.For the price it's not worth it"

"The house was secluded, yet within walking distance of the grocery store. We had Key Deer every morning and evening. The house was very well stocked with cooking utensils, bakeware, pots and pans, toiletries, bikes, beach chairs, towels. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. "

"By the description of the property I was was hoping for an amazing experience. The house exterior looked like it was in need of clean up. It just looked like the construction crew left and no one did detail cleaning Our room was on the upper level. It was called the Star room. Apparently there was a methane gas leak somewhere, as our room, the entire stay smelled like an unflushed toilet. It was a lingering odor. We had fans in the room, which helped. The house has this lovely weather vane on the top of the roof, which rotated with the wind. Unfortunately, it needed greasing! It squeaked and made noise all night! I was never able to speak directly to the management. I could only leave a message, and I was never called back. So, if you do rent at this VRBO, be aware,, no management will be of any help. "

"The photos of this beautiful property don’t lie!! Spacious, impeccably clean and comfortable. This home was perfect for hosting our children and grandchildren…lovely refreshing pool (bigger than expected)…fishing for tarpon right off the back yard. Incredible sunrise views off the balcony to start our day was delightful. Watching wildlife in the mangroves just off shore was a daily experience; including an occasional visit from a family of Key Deer. John was very quick to respond to any of my queries and had great local suggestions about restaurants, fishing, etc. The bikes and paddle boards were a bonus: as was the ice machine. Loved every minute in this beautiful property."
