"I stayed at the Chaya house which was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to speak with. Otsu is a smaller quiet town with lots of character and friendly residents. I highly recommend checking out the local Izakayas and cafes for an equally excellent experience."

"We had a very nice, large, twin bedroom facing Lake Biwa. The room had a couch seating area and was still large enough for us to comfortably keep to big suitcases open in the room and easily get around. Breakfast service was good, with a variety of Japanese and Western dishes available. We also used the Club Lounge in the afternoons for tea and in the evenings for drinks and canapés. The staff were excellent, very friendly and professional. The hotel provides shuttle bus service to & from Otsu station plus there is a local tram line within a 5 min walk. The Lake Biwa cruise boat dock is within easy walking distance. "
"Nice hotel. Loved the dance show. The staff were absolutely fantastic, very welcoming and helpful. I had lost my camera in a taxi and they went out of their way to find the taxi company and arrange for my camera to be delivered. So grateful to them!"
"If we had known about this hotel earlier, we would have made it our main base in Kyoto. The location is extremely convenient, with easy access to both bus and train lines, and plenty of dining options in the surrounding area.
The hotel itself is excellent and clearly very popular. The onsen is superb—spanning multiple floors—and the property offers a number of thoughtful extras, including complimentary ramen from 9 to 11 p.m., which was a fun and welcome touch.
Overall, we were truly glad to have stayed here. It’s a fantastic, well-located hotel that makes exploring Kyoto effortless."
"We loved the room we got with the private onsen on the balcony, well worth it. The dinner that we had in the private dining room was amazing, so much variety and they were smaller portions which was nice so we could try everything without being too full. The breakfast wasn’t for us, it was Japanese style and while there was a lot of variety, it included a lot of things that were picked and had vinegar on them which wasn’t for us that early in the morning. The other Onsen they have on the property are also very nice. We really enjoyed the outdoor one in the garden area, and watching the sunrise on the rooftop one was breathtaking. They do alternate the days on which men and women can use these onsen so you may want to double check what is available before you leave stay so you’re not disappointed, or just ensure your room has the onsen with it. The room did feel a bit dated, and when the heat was on this awful musty smell blew out of it. The area around the fridge also smelt musty. Other than that the bathroom had great amenities, and you are provided with your own onsen towel as well. "
