Pigalle

This lively neighbourhood is known as the centre of entertainment in Paris and features famous cabaret venues and a museum of eroticism.

Visit the Moulin Rouge and see an authentic French cabaret show in Pigalle. Relax in bars or music clubs and observe Paris’ animated red-light district. Increasingly shedding its once unsavory reputation, Pigalle is now a popular nightspot to see a cabaret show and take in Paris’ lively atmosphere.

See an exhibit at the Museum of Eroticism where ancient and contemporary art has an erotic focus. Find captivating modern sculptures and paintings in the contemporary art exhibits. Notice ancient religious artefacts celebrating the essence of human life. On the second of seven floors you will find an insightful collection of photographs, drawings and unusual documents linked to brothels in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Experience a traditional French cabaret at the famous Moulin Rouge. Watch dancers perform the renowned French cancan. Take photos of the iconic red windmill on the building’s roof and appreciate the original Fin de siècle French décor inside. The Moulin Rouge opened in the late 19th century and has been the subject of numerous films, documentaries and novels over the past century.

Enjoy fine dining at stylish restaurants in South Pigalle. This was once a quieter area in the city however, it has since been revived with specialty coffee shops and stylish restaurants and retail shops. Discover the Rue des Martyrs about a 5-minute walk from the Pigalle Metro station. This busy street is lined with shops selling fine wines, cheeses and delicious pastries.

Wander along the famed Boulevard de Clichy. On this street are a number of notable buildings, including the historic quarters of many famous artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Admire the grand architecture and historic buildings.

Take the Metro to the Pigalle Station and you will emerge in the lively centre. Visit South Pigalle during the day for fine food and shopping. Explore bars, nightclubs and music venues for an entertaining evening out.
