"Maka Nui is a beautiful house, overlooking the green landscape of Captain Cook and blue waters of the Pacific. It easily fit our extended family for a family get-away, and was a wonderful and relaxing base with which to explore Kona and the rest of the Big Island. The location in Captain Cook was convenient to groceries and some restaurants, while still being close enough to Kona for snorkeling cruises and surf lessons. Arrival and check-in was easy, and the host was responsive to all of our questions. The house is well apportioned with bedrooms and bathrooms. We could have spent the entire time on the lanai, looking over the landscape below. It was an absolute treat."

"This B&B was the best part of my stay on the Big Island. It really felt like you were warmly invited to someone’s home. Hannah, the innkeeper, is a true gem of a human being and brings a special peace and loveliness to the space. When one of my excursions got unexpectedly canceled, I decided to have a lazy day at the property: soaked in the hot tub, took a long shower in the outdoor lava shower, and read on the quiet and peaceful lanai that had a fantastic view overlooking the coastline, had several slices of delicious cake that was offered as part of the afternoon snack. I would absolutely come back."

"We spent a glorious 10 days in this little "Tree House" to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. The room and environs were very clean, LaRissa, the Caretaker was very helpful, we loved the outdoor kitchen and having a washer and dryer. The constant visits from the beautiful little geckos outside and lovely birds with their distinct calls, and the incredible view were all fabulous. For us, the location was ideal, very quiet, near the City of Refuge, coffee and chocolate farms. Loved the rural environment. We will definitely be returning next April."

"Absolutely lovely. Perfect location with an amazing view. Tammy was so sweet and easy to communicate with. The house was pure luxury with an amazing kitchen. We never wanted to leave. This definitely spoiled us for any other location. We can't wait to return. "

"Breakfast was wonderful! Don’t be in a hurry! I was leary when I arrived in the dark…but fell in love with the place in the daylight! It was a great adventure! No glass windows…only screens. The frogs were loud…but slept so good! If you like noise machines, you will love it! The bedroom had a fan if needed. They had beach equipment to borrow if wanted. A wonderful snorkeling spot was next to the National Park…just a few miles from the Dragonfly Ranch. The ocean view was amazing! Barbara (and her staff) was a great hostess! "

"The house is very spacious and was perfect for our family of five adults and three children. The kitchen is large and well equipped. Nice bbq on the lanai. The huge upstairs bedroom has a great view of the bay. It's got two trundle beds and two double beds, a couple of chairs and the TV. The other three bedrooms are downstairs. Note: one bathroom is connected to a bedroom and the other bathroom is in the hall downstairs. There is no bathroom upstairs. There is an outside shower, though. There is an A/C unit downstairs and upstairs. There are ceiling fans in every room.Anna, our host, was there to greet us and responded immediately to a couple of minor issues. She was very accommodating to our arrival and departure. The house is an easy walk to Manini beach park. It's a rocky beach, but has decent snorkeling. Other (sandy) beaches are nearby but require a car. Kayak rental is very close and we paddled over to the Captain Cook monument for some very nice snorkeling.This part of the island is a natural setting, prepare for insects and wildlife. The bird songs in the morning and the frog calls (not a croaks) all night were wonderful to us, but if you need absolute quiet you may want to use earplugs. The teeny mosquitoes may find you outside (no problem inside if you keep the door closed) but insect repellent deters them well. Our family loved watching the geckos all around the property. Real Hawaii atmosphere here. No crowds. Mahalo, Anna, for a wonderful stay. We'll return!"

"My family stayed here over Spring break, right at the tail end of the Kona low. We lost a day due to the storm but loved our stay! The location of this house is just amazing, you could not possibly be closer to the water. It was too rough to snorkel or swim when we there(again because other storm) but there was a tide pool right in front of the house that we could go in at low tide which was great. The house was so well stocked, even had a coffee grinder for delicious local coffee. The lock on the door is a little tricky, we ended up calling for help on our arrival, but they answered and helped even at about 11 pm and we got the hang of it after that. We loved Captain Cook and had great food at The Coffee Shack and Kaaloa’s Super J which were pretty close. We would absolutely stay here again if/when we are back on the big island. "

"We had a great stay! We enjoyed the boogie boards and snorkeling gear! The house had everything we needed. Our only issue, was at no fault to the rental, but there was a neighborhood rooster that started crowing between 3 to 4 am and didn’t stop until it got dark. So, there was no sleeping in. "
