"On the positive side, the boutique vibe is fantastic—it feels exclusive and peaceful, and the location in Bordeaux is spot-on for walking everywhere. The staff were also super sweet and helpful throughout our stay. However, the room left a bit to be desired. We booked the Tolstoy Suite which has a beautiful terrace overlooking the pool in the courtyard , but it was blocked off and completely unusable, which was a huge letdown. Also, for a 5-star luxury hotel charging top-tier rates, simple amenities like conditioner in the shower were missing. Great location and lovely team, but a few details fell short for what we paid."

"I liked the concept of this hotel and the service. Had a minor issue upon check in and the young man named Benjamin handled the situation very well turning my experience instead of a negative into a positive one, even though he did nothing wrong to cause the issue in the first place."

"The location of the hotel was amazing! The room was a good size, the bathtub was very nice. The main issue I had with the property was that our air conditioner did not work properly. It made for a very uncomfortable night sleep. We did notify the staff, and they tried to help us with it. Even after they fiddled with it, it did not change anything. It was very stuffy and oppressively warm in the room."

"The Mondrian is a modern, upscale hotel just outside Bordeaux’s historic center. The location is not premier, but the old city is easily accessible by car or bicycle. The hotel preserves its historical façade, but don’t expect a French château experience. Behind it is a contemporary structure of concrete, glass, and steel, with the rooms and atmosphere of a modern European business hotel. The team is young, friendly, and capable, and the Japanese restaurant is superb—definitely one of the highlights of the stay. However, some details fall short of a true five-star experience: inconsistent number and quality of towels replaced daily, limited attention to bed making, lack of branded toiletries, and occasional back-office activities visible to guests. These are issues that training and attention to detail can solve. Two shortcomings are more structural. The single driveway serves both taxis and valet parking, so one car can easily block traffic. More importantly, the room air conditioning is inadequate for an international five-star hotel. Even running continuously at its lowest setting, my room would not cool below 73°F (23°C). Overall, a pleasant modern hotel with a promising team and excellent restaurant, but still short of the consistency expected from a true five-star property."
