Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again."

"It was an amazing experience to be in a real castle we chose a cheaper room so we didn’t have an en-suite but a beautiful bathroom in the corridor instead. The owners were so helpful and friendly and we had a very good quality evening meal with beautiful romantic piano music played by the manager and a history talk too. The owner was a beautiful lady who chatted to us in the bar area. We’d like to go again. Breakfast was good."

With two teenagers the lack of WiFi and poor vodafone coverage in the area meant we engaged in family time more and 'screens' were not a feature.We used the cottage as a base to visit Aira Force & Gowbarrow Fell, to kayak on Lake Windermere, to visit the local falls High Force, Ashghyll Force, a lovely walk around Low Force area, to visit Northumberland College Zoo and Hadrian's Wall..."
