The most important thing that stood out was the early check-in. My flight arrived at 2 AM in New Jersey. I took a train into Manhattan. Walked around for a bit, but around 9 AM. I decided to give up and try for an early check-in. I was greeted nicely and welcomed, and was allowed to check in and get some sleep.

The staff here is very helpful and there are people from all over the world staying here! Hi New York City Hostel is affordable and convenient and an all around great place for someone wanting to experience New York City on a budget!

Overall, good stay. The common areas are nice but the rooms are a bit worn down. The room temperature consistently fluctuates - I didn’t expect to be sweating in NYC in Jan. The beds are also pretty flimsy. If the person on the top bunk moved at all, my bottom bunk would rock back and forth keeping me awake (I am a light sleeper). Bathrooms were pretty decent as well. Location was great! Right by the subway
