"We have just returned from a perfect, three generational holiday at the Occidental. We needed a hotel that was a short transfer from Palma airport , close to a beach and suitable for a toddler, teens and 20-30 year-olds and a Nana that likes quiet. The Occidental not only met these expectations but surpassed them. The numerous pools, restaurant and bar facilities, children’s activities and hotel rooms were even better than we could have expected having read some of the previous reviews. I simply do not understand how people can be critical of this hotel or their staff. They went above and beyond and always had time for your queries no matter how busy they were. To those holidaymakers who complained of the noise, I would suggest you ask for quiet rooms. We did just this and they were perfect. To those holidaymakers who complained of the food, I wonder what more they could be expecting as the choice was plentiful. During our holiday, I observed the managers going around and checking on things daily. You can see they really care and want to make our holiday the best it can be and for this I thank them. I would particularly like to mention the staff at the children’s pool. The attendant always had his eyes peeled and this was particularly reassuring when you have children in the water. We enjoyed our holiday so much at this hotel and are hoping to return in the future. Thank you."
"A weekend in Maga for my birthday… I stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago with my kids and rated the pool, bar and lunch menu. Booked it again for this two night stay with my better half and it was every bit as good as I remembered.
Only bit I wasn’t keen on was the buffet breakfast, it’s quite chaotic but the hotel is large so to be expected… Surprisingly good coffee from the machine however and as long as the queue for the fresh omelette may be, if really is the best bit and worth the wait.

"The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, the buffet is good, the views are amazing and is organized. The food in the restaurant is gross. My husband ordered a medium well steak and he got well cook that taste horrible, the waitress took it back and he lost the appetite that night "
"Great location within walking distance of the beach and the main strip, but far enough to not be disturbed by noise. We went to totally chill for a week and mostly stayed on resort apart from a trip to Palma on the local bus which stops just round the corner.
Room 419 had a great view of the pool and had a decent bathroom and balcony. As others have mentioned, the bed was hard but I found it very comfortable and never woke with a sore back as with other softer beds. Air conditioning never let us down- very important as it was baking hot.
The food was very good - always a great selection at every meal time and staff were constantly clearing tables and topping up the buffet.
Evening entertainment was basic but still enjoyable - mostly the team of 4 doing dance routines to backing tracks. There was a magician one night and balance/acrobatics another.
Other reviews had mentioned no atmosphere round the pool, but the DJ played music every day and the girls arranged pool aqua fit, water polo and rifle shooting activities.
The pool bar staff were great and we must single out Raquel who was just amazing. She worked long days and always had a smile on her face and was so friendly and funny, and often helped out in the restaurant too.
We had forgotten that early July would be when lots of teenagers would have finished A level type exams, so there were loads of groups of 17+ youngsters alongside quite a few families. Occasionally they were quite loud, but no bother really."
