First, the staff at the hotel were wonderful and helpful during our entire stay. From the doormen at the entrance, the desk staff, and the cleaning crews, everyone was friendly and had a smile to share.
This hotel is situated directly on the Gran Via. If you want a quiet, out of the way hotel, this is not the place. If you want to be at the heart of the city, where you can feel the beating pulse of Madrid, and enjoy its people, culture, dining, and shopping—look no further!
We stayed in a junior suite on the thrid floor overlooking the Gran Via. From our window we enjoyed the crowds and energy of the street. We were serenaded by buskers playing guitar, violin, a Flamenco dancer, and (of all things one night) a woman dressed as a potted plant who would pop up from her place on the sidewalk and startle people. It was marvelous and beautiful!
I understand this may not be for everyone. Even heavy windows won't block the sound of Madrid so if you don't want the noise, book a room overlooking the hotel courtyard—once looking to the hotel's interior, the noise and activity disappears. Of course, you sacrifice the view! And what a view it is!! One afternoon I sat in the window for two hours watching the people and cars go by, the street artists performing, street vendors, teams working for petition signatures, and the shift in dress and demeanor from work to nightlife.
I would definitely stay here again!
