"I really enjoyed my stay here, it is a brand new hotel. The staff were so friendly, including Huong, Tung tu and Phuong. Who WhatsApp me to help me organise a driver or checking if I wanted any lunch preparing. At the same time they give you space too. So the ideal balance. It’s such a peaceful location, if you want visit the Padonga. As a nomad who works too, the wifi was really strong here, both within the room and outside. LittleTamCoc Boutique villa Ninh Binh

10/10 Excellent

"Great position, staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Which makes all the difference when travelling long days. Loved our time there. Wish we could have stayed longer."

Bliss Tam Coc Resort Ninh Binh

10/10 Excellent

"The property is tucked away in a secluded area, exactly what we were looking for. We booked a villa with a private pool, giving us the entire space to ourselves. The villa is spacious, and the staff are helpful and accommodating. Mr. Xinh (the manager, I believe) made sure all the guests were well taken care of. We stayed for two nights and noticed that the breakfast selection changed by about 50–60% between the two mornings. You’ll need to ask for tea or specialty coffee, such as espresso or cappuccino. We also received a lovely little gift of local honey at checkout, which was a thoughtful touch. Location-wise, it’s about a 30–40-minute drive to the Trang An boat tour and Bai Dinh Temple Complex, but taxis are readily manageable for getting around. The main Tam Coc area is only about a 5-minute drive away, while Bich Dong Temple is just 2–4 minutes away by car. Overall, I would happily stay here again, provided the warm hospitality and excellent service remain consistent!"

Fairy Mountain Retreat

10/10 Excellent

"Gorgeous retreat, the ambiance was beautiful and the room was very clean with luxurious amenities! The property had many features that were picturesque. The restaurant breakfast and dinner were great! The host was very friendly and helpful when we had a late check in after a sleeper bus. I will be rebooking this for our next trip in Vietnam!"

Trang An Garden Resort

10/10 Excellent

"This resort is stunning. Sitting in the small main sister within the primary resort area right outside of the town of Hoa Lu, it is part of an areas with lots of other resorts and restaurants. It is at the end of a smaller street and quite and feels private. It is absolutely beautiful and each suite feels very private with its own entrance due to the heavy greenery there. The mini lake in the middle is gorgeous and the views of the mountains around you take your breathe away. The staff were young but super friendly and we were able to rent an electric scooter from there and drive for 10 or so minutes to Hoa Lu which is a stunning town."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Lac Thuy?

The best area to stay in Lac Thuy is typically in or around the main town centre, as it offers the most convenience and access to local amenities.

The main town of Lac Thuy is relatively compact, with most essential services, local eateries, and small shops situated along the central roads. While not a large urban area, it serves as the primary hub for the district, making it practical for visitors.

For families, staying near the town centre provides easy access to everyday necessities and local markets. It's a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting local cultural sites, ensuring that everything you might need is just a short drive or walk away.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find that accommodations slightly outside the immediate town centre can offer more secluded options, often surrounded by the region's natural beauty.

When is the best time to go to Lac Thuy?

The best time to go to Lac Thuy is during the dry season, which runs from October to April, for comfortable weather and outdoor activities.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant temperatures and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the natural landscapes and cultural sites. The cooler, drier air is superb for hiking, cycling, or simply enjoying the tranquil surroundings without the humidity and heavy downpours of the wet season.

For those looking to enjoy the region's natural beauty and participate in outdoor adventures, the period between October and April offers the most agreeable conditions.
