"Beautiful cultural experience. Having your own onsen and choice of the public onsen was very nice. We did not think the seiki breakfasts and dinner were worth the astoundingly expensive price. I would next time not book the meals, exorbitant cost at nearly $300 each time"
"Lovely rooms and in-site onsen (both public and private). Great quiet location; convenient to get to and from.
Has a lovely dinner and an Izakaya nearby. "
"It’s all about dogs there. Love how the Japanese love their furkids. Hygiene measures, dog runs, dog onsen with humans, dogs can access everywhere in this hotel, even the restaurants."
"We are the repeaters. This the rare co-ed onsen which allows you to go in with your friends and family. We enjoyed all of the local cuisine items with great beer and sake. "
"Beautiful surroundings. Relaxing environment. Staff is beyond courteous and attentive. Food is excellent and abundant. Hot springs are scenic and reinvigorating. "
"Staying here was one of the highlights of our entire trip. The view from our bedroom was absolutely stunning - I miss it already. The giant windows made for such a special place experience. Finally, the food - wow! We didn’t expect to have such fine quality dining, with...
"We had a wonderful time at this ryokan. We chose this inn specifically for its remote location and traditional atmosphere and were not disappointed. The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. The building is old and reminded me of the railroad lodges of the western United States: creaky old doors and floors, metal keys, and rotary dial phones.
Other than the hotel, there are no restaurants nearby (that I know of) and dinner is an elaborate kaiseki ryori that requires...

It's a little off the main street, so it's quiet and peaceful, but cross the main road, and you'll be right in the heart of the action in Takayama with restaurants, bars, and shops. Parking is quick and easily accessible as well. The hotel is well-appointed and clean, the staff are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the area, and they provided great tips.
