Room was nice. Bed was very comfortable— sleeping on a cloud! Whole building was beautiful and new. Staff was nice. Limited dining options near. Good for a 1 night stop passing through the area
There are no attractions or convenience stores nearby, and there is no bathtub in the room, but the service staff are very enthusiastic and kind, the room is also very clean, and parking is very convenient.
Stayed 3 nights here for a ski trip to Dynaland / Takasu Snow Park, which is 25 mins away driving. Hotels closer to the ski resorts didn’t look convincing so I went with this hotel run by Marriott. The room is big in Japanese standard, very clean and staff were helpful. Parking just outside the hotel and it’s located right at the junction off the highway, but inside it’s very quiet. Shokawa is an old village so don’t expect any night life but there are sufficient dining options and onsen nearby.
Hotel no breakfast. Not enough hooks to hand cloth near shower.
Looks modern, view is nice.
Some packaged food in hotel heat up yourself. One cafe in the area. With very limited breakfast capacity, but owner tries, kudos for her. Staff nice, hotel clean, rain shower
Great property and excellent location from the motor way. Well designed and free coffee. No restaurants limited food items for sale. Nice little lounge to relax.
This place was unlike anything around it. It was almost like a new build popped up in a rural area. The quality was amazing, it was immaculate and new. Everything was so clean, instructions and service was very clear. Hotel staff did a great presentation on what can be done, where and what is available. The room was great, comfortable and modern. Would stay here again in future if passing by
The hotel is lovely. My room was terrific. But this particular hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere. It is a stop along the road in the very northern part of Takayama. When you read information online about the location of the hotel, and it states that there are things nearby or close by to do and see know that is only relevant if you have a car. If you are traveling to Takayama by train, when you arrive at the station, you will then board a bus and ride it north for an hour and a half before you reach the hotel. There are very few restaurants, no grocery store, etc… if you want to do anything in Takayama you need to board the bus and go back into the city and note that that bus only frequency this particular area twice a day at 6:30a and at 3:30p. The location is wild and gorgeous – but there are no hiking trails, parks to visit/explore, etc…it is “wild” and is the part of Japan that has been frequented, recently, by bears (I saw a bear when I was walking along the main road) so it would be potentially dangerous to just go off exploring in the woods. So, great hotel to stop at if you are traveling by car between Takayama and the Japanese Alls/northern region of Japan. Not at all the place to make an effort to visit if you want to go somewhere and stay for a while and have things to do w/o a vehicle. Anything you read online about this place being close by things to do and see is a bait and switch.
