Hulili Tropical Fruit Farm- With over 200 five star reviews!

*If your dates aren't available, please check out our new listing #1355789 or our new Treehouse listing #4108089*
Opened for guests in 2010, the original HULILI FARM COTTAGE (pronounced who-lee-lee) has welcomed so many wonderful guests that it became time to enable more people to enjoy the farm. Please check out our Pineapple Cottage listing (#1355789) to see which cottage best suits your needs.
Guests rave about the 'SWEEPING, UNSPOILED, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY VIEW' in every direction! The sun and moon rise over the ocean as you watch the wonders unfold from your comfy rocking chair OR swinging bed on the lanai. Birdsong is the beautiful sound track on this private farm located at the end of a dead end country road. Relax as you walk through the orchards and please, sample the fruit...that's when it is best!
The COTTAGE is bright, clean, and furnished with all you will need. The 'BAMBOO SLEEPING CHAMBER' offers a KING size 'sleep number' bed with dual controls for firmness. A FULL size futon is inside, and outside on the LANAI is the QUEEN size 'HANGING BED'. (This bed has become a favorite with our guests, who sleep, nap, read and talk while swaying in the breeze, taking in the beauty.) Walk-in shower and pedestal sink in the cottage bath. Laundry facilities, with all supplies, are available for our guests and just steps away from the cottage.
A huge AVOCADO tree hugs the patio next to the lanai. We have named her, MS. CADDO. You may taste her fruits in season and almost always there will be a stalk of 'apple' bananas hanging from her branches. Bring some groceries and you are ready to settle in.
We encourage you to take the time to read our GUEST COMMENTS. They paint a true picture of their stay at Hulili Farm. Here is seclusion, peace and quiet on a tropical farm 'paradise'.
The ultimate guidebook: 'HAWAII, THE BIG ISLAND REVEALED' is in the cottage for your use while exploring.

While most guests come to the farm to get away from their busy lives, for those who still want to maintain some connection, we have recently updated our internet and now offer fiber-internet on the farm. But we won’t tell your boss that!

Have fun!

Todd and Madeleine

Beautiful peaceful stay at farm close to Hilo

What a beautiful location and farm. So peaceful and a fantastic place to decompress. Matter of fact we spent a very enjoyable day on the lanai. The cottage had all the amenities we needed, a real kitchen, the bed was very comfortable, there’s a washer and dryer there, as well as snorkeling and beach gear available for use! We highly recommend this place and would stay again 3 easy check in/out, nice hosts. Farm is about 30 minutes from Hilo.

Slice of paradise in Hakalau

My husband and I enjoyed our weeklong stay at Hulili Farm! Waking up to that beautiful ocean view never gets old, it’s breathtaking! The hosts are the kindest, most down to earth couple you will ever meet and their cute little cottage is well stocked. We loved coming “home” every day after exploring the island. Highly recommend, 10/10!

Beautiful, peaceful, place. Staying here was the highlight of our trip to Hawaii. The cottage was secluded, cozy, clean and fully equipped. Drinking my morning coffee with an amazing view and walking around the orchard was an amazing experience. Thank you Madeleine and your family for your kindness and hospitality. Must Stay here

This location is located in a very beautiful iconic countryside of the big island of Hawaii. My girls were very excited about what we were staying at. The views are amazing. Your living in nature well enjoying in comforts of home. The hosts were very friendly. They even brought us over some fresh cut apple bananas and hung them from the avocado tree for us. When we come back we will definitely be booking here again. I would like to thank the host for sharing their beautiful country home with us.

Amazing cottage

We stayed 4 nights at the cottage and we really enjoyed every second of it. The owners were very welcoming and we instantly felt great and comfortable. We had the best banana bread at our home waiting for us to taste and enjoy it. We spent all of our morning on the terrace with our books and coffee. Perfection! We would really recommend this place for other travelers looking for a place in Big Island! Thanks again for our stay Sheree and Norm!

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here

We wanted to spend some time on the lush green side of the island and this location didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the lanai, listening to the sounds of nature. At first I was shocked by the loud frogs but they have their charm, and the hum of fans drowned them out when it was time to sleep. We enjoyed exploring the East island and we appreciated the host’s recommendations for day trips in the welcome booklet. The farm is lovely, as were the sunrises. Definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to be outside the city and close to nature. It’s about a 20 minute drive into Hilo but well worth it. Felt like our own private Hawai’i!

Our personal home in pardise

My wife and I have been married for 4 years and were never able to take a honeymoon. We could not have picked a better place to fall in love all over again. You have the privacy you find in your own home, with a view that words and pictures just cant describe. The location is perfect for the vacationers that want see the sights. Hulili Farm is minutes away from some of the most breathtaking sights on the big island. This vacation spot gives the perfect mix of relaxation and sightseeing.

Such a quiet, lovely place!

We loved your cottage and hope to return for another stay. From the moment we drove in and were greeted by Ty the Dog, a nice loaf of banana bread on the kitchen table and that spectacular view, Hulili Farm Cottage was warm and welcoming. We ate breakfast on the lanai every morning and enjoyed the view, the breeze and the serenity. We also loved the suspended bed under the lanai, it is comfortable and invites you to take a nap--and we did! At night the sounds of a coqui frog and the evening breeze lulled us to sleep. Thank you so much for such a wonderful place, we definitely want to return during our next Hawaii vacation.

Sweet cottage, Scenic spot

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful nights at Hulili Farm during our visit to Hawaii. The cottage is clean, comfortable and well appointed. We were welcomed with banana bread on the table and fresh avocado and limes. We enjoyed wandering among the fruit trees and tasting the fresh longan and lychees. The cottage is located about 20 minutes north of Hilo and is a good base from which to explore the east side of the island. We visited the Waipio Valley, Akaka Falls, Hilo Farmers Market, Volcano National Park and the new lava flows around Puna. We would gladly stay here again. Mahalo, Madeleine.

Best home base for an amazing Big Island adventure

My husband and I and our 14 year old son spent a week at Hulili Farm. Our son immediately claimed the hanging bed the moment he saw it. We split our vacation between beaches, volcanoes, zip lines, and kayaks and peaceful relaxing days on the farm enjoying the trade wind breezes and Tod and Madeleine's warm hospitality. Being on the farm is a welcome escape far from the tourist crowd and We loved being on the Hilo side of the island with its waterfalls and rainforests. We had everything we needed in the cottage including multiple copies of a Big Island guide book which helped us maximize our stay. We can't wait to go back.

Lovely paradise.

The hosts couldnt be more helpful. We had fresh fruit every morning to go with our morning coffee on the lanai overlooking the beautiful view. There's plenty of sightseeing on the quiet side of the big island, although this is not the best beach side. The live volcano has made it hard to see some of the park, but flying over thr lava is a once in a life time thing to see. A word of caution read any tours you sign up for cautiously for hidden information.

Peaceful stay with Amazing views

This beautiful farm is off the beaten path and about 25 minutes from Hilo. It is very quiet except for the birds and frogs. The views of the farm and the ocean are amazing and mesmerizing. We sat outside in the rockers and on the hanging bed for hours. The sunrise and sunsets were really beautiful. We left each day to check out local waterfalls, beaches and of course the volcano. A lot of people come over from Kona for just a day trip at a time, but we really enjoyed being able to explore more since we were on this side of the island. There are plenty of good restaurants in Hilo and you have to stop at Ed's Bakery which is really close by. The cottage was clean and had everything you need. You could stay right here and cook your meals in the kitchen. The whole place is really cute and comfortable. If you need a peaceful place to get away, this place is very relaxing.

Very Relaxing

We spent 4 nights at Hulili following some time on the Kona side. Lovely property; the farm is a beautiful setting and the cottage was VERY clean, comfortable, and private (it's a totally separate structure from the main residence). Ocean view (about 2 miles distant) and if you walk just down the hill a little, you can also look back and see the summit of Mauna Kea (on a clear day). Great location for exploring the Hamakua coast, Hilo town (great food!) as well as points south; we really like the wet/lush side of Hawaii. One particular suggestion: the binder the hosts provide describes a short hike down to the old Hakalau sugar mill, under the highway bridge. Instead of driving to the little parking area, just walk down Chin Chuck Rd to the pedestrian overpass and keep following the road; it adds about 3 miles (total) with a healthy workout heading back up the hill. Anyway... we loved Hulili, thanks again to our great owners/hosts there.

You will never want to leave the rocking chairs on the lanai with such a beautiful and relaxing!

Thank you Todd and Madeline for the most relaxing and beautiful five days on the big island. It has been so nice to spend each morning and evening sitting in these rocking chairs watching the orchards and oceans. We have slept great on your comfy bed each night. You are such a sweet, friendly, hard-working family, and it has been a pleasure meeting you both, the kids, the dogs, and, the neighbors duck. We have been adventuring nonstop doing amazing activities for four days. Today, the last day, we wanted to spend it here on the lanai, best day ever! Thank you for an 40th anniversary trip we will never forget. Also, thank you for the muffins, the delicious eggs and the avocados. The last night we stayed up the latest and we watched the most amazing stars from the lanai. It was like being at a planetarium; we ended with a bang. Thank you again, the Greers. PS — The cottage is so much larger than the pictures show, we were also surprised by the huge wardrobe and dresser space. It helped as spread out and feel at home instead of living out of a suitcase. Perfect setup!

So Happy!

I was so happy with everything about this beautiful property. At the end of the country lane we turned into Hulili Farm and the view of the orchard of fruit trees and the ocean beyond immediately starts to calm your soul and tell you to "relax, enjoy and be happy". I am not an early riser but each day the sun peeking up over the horizon was not to be missed enhanced by the fresh ocean air and singing birds. We stayed a week and kept an easy pace reluctantly leaving the farm to explore. We had a great massage in town, visited the local Market days on Wednesday and Saturday, drove up the coast to visit parks and quaint towns, walked through Akaka Falls, and let our eyes feast on the splendor that is Hawaii. Our Host/owner, Sheree, anticipated each need and ushered us right into the time apart that we desired. We enjoyed the farm tour and learning about the unusual fruit she grows. Thank you Sheree! This was a perfect time apart and weeks after I have returned home my heart is still "so Happy". I would recommend this to anyone wanting the perfect get away.
