We went on a staycation during a time of fairly intense COVID restrictions. We went in with our eyes open, and we were realistic about what it would entail.
The hotel complied with Scottish law in force at the time, and this meant that certain activities such as the on-site soft play were unavailable, that we had to get our evening meals from Aviemore (great M&S, great fish and chips, OK pizza etc) and that we had to eat in the lobby with a pint from the bar, and so on. We were also only able to use the pool 3x during our stay, again due to COVID restrictions.
As a result of our attitude, we had a really great time, and we thought that the hotel itself offered really good value for money.
The rooms would benefit from a redecoration, and from air conditioning, but they were clean, sufficiently spacious, and desk fans were provided for us to use if we got too warm. The on-site games arcade would benefit from investment, and the playing surface of the tennis court was holed but looked to be under repair.
We were quite worried about some of the reviews we saw online prior to staying here. Having stayed here, we think that they were too harsh. We think this may be due to https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/mar/21/scottish-hotel-admin-error-sacking-staff-covid-19, and we saw some comments on news sites reporting this news that vowed to trash the hotel’s reputation as revenge for this administrative error (even Nicola Sturgeon criticised the decision).
