Cheap but worth to stay. Just beware to park outside the hotel. Next day maybe you'll be summon by MBPP. Buy parking coupon or park at parking area before hotel.
Al property is convenient and good. As mention like the name Old Penang Hotel, the environment quite old but i love it. The only problem is iron also too old with protruding wire. May be dangerous if got electric shock. Attached toilet is good & clean but the shower holder is broke. So have to hold the shower head while taking bath. No mirror in the toilet but got one outside the toilet with sink.

Good location, walking distance to food and a shopping mall. Internal furnishing are not in the best condition but can't complain for the price charged.

We're backpacking around the world so we have stayed in sorts of places but this has to be the most neglected with regards to cleanliness. The bed sheets were stained and had what looked like cigarette burns in them, and the was alot of someone elses hair on the bed.
After we got our sleep sheets out and own pillows cases on... the bed itself was comfy.
Wifi & TV didn't work in the room (not the end of the world)
The most disappointing part was that we paid extra to have private bathroom and it was disgusting. I had to really scrub the walls sink and toilet seat clean. (The falls were clean) super neglected.
The plus side was that there were tiles loose in the ceiling that let in some natural light..

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disappointed hotel stay
1.) I didn't know that the room I had booked with shared bathroom. When I want to change room with bathroom, the staff told me that she did not know to change room. After she just playing with her HP, just ignored me.
2.) There is just a power point which was occupied by the TV, I went to request the socket from the staff, she just told me that she also do not have. 3.) She also gave me the wrong TV remote control, so I have to manually change the TV channels.
4.) The room is hot and dirty, there are a lots of ants and mosquito. They also do not clean the room daily basic.
5.) The horrible case is the bath room and toilet do not have any hanger and toiletries, I have to took your own one n put the clothes and toiletries on small triangle holder.
May be they expect the customer go to bathroom with the naked body !
The hotel was ok enough considering the advertised price. My biggest problem is that there was a surprise 10 ringot per night tax fee when I got there. Normally that wouldn't be more than an annoyance, but we got in late and all the money changers were closed. So not only was their extra fees that had to be paid on arrival, thus the advertised price was incorrect, but I also didn't have any of the right currency so I had to argue and beg to accept Thai baht just to get my key. They did finally, but the taxes should have been included in my original payment, not surprised at me when I got there. Otherwise, it was ok. Basically what you would expect from a cheap hotel.
Great choice if you don't require 5 star amenities
I needed a place to overnight in Penang ... I arrived around midnight for a 9 am meeting the next day, after which I would leave Penang. Service was very friendly and helpful. I was assured the front desk would be open, even though the hotel was really a guest house. My room was large, clean, comfortable and cool. Bathroom facilities were shared, which was all right with me. Although the hotel is located in the CBD, I found food at midnight, after walking 10 minutes. The next day, I was able to make my own coffee in the hotel pantry. Staff was helpful taking care of my luggage when I left for my meeting. Amenities are only adequate but, given the low price charged, this hotel is a great choice.
Old, inexpensive, and basic place close to the main bus station (Komtar) and 15minutes by foot to the center of Georgetown’s tourist disctrict. They only accept cash payment.
My stay was from 29-30th December 2018. The hotel was comfortable and the location was really good. The only issues I’ve encountered are as below:
1) Cleanliness
Room is clean but there happened to be a few worms in the bathroom. Wasn’t really an issue as I went there with my friends. May not be suitable for a family though especially if little kids are around.
2) Service
This was exceptionally bad. We arrived at the hotel at 2.10pm, 10 minutes past the check in time. The receptionist told us to wait and we had to wait for a few minutes as we watched her do some administrative work. This could have been done after we were checked in as well. Next, she was very rude to us, as well as to other customers. She spoke in a very muffled voice, when I politely asked her that I couldn’t understand her, she raised her voice as if shouting at us. When other customers who haven’t booked came into the hotel and asked for room rates, she didn’t even look at them but just pointed to the flyer on the table which showed the room rates.
When we have checked into the room, the air conditioning remote was not working, so I went back to the reception and told her about this. She raised her voice and told me that I didn't know how to turn on the air conditioner. I told her to show me how to do it then. She followed me into the room, tried to turn it on, then left without saying a word when she realised it wasn't working. I had to go back to the reception in order to get a new remote.
