• It's simple — first, put in your passport, travel docs, wallet and vital medications. Next, you'll need some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the time. What to wear on a flight:

• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression socks and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.

• Your passport and travel documents will need to be inspected by security personnel. Have them close by to avoid fumbling around for them.

• The right choice of footwear can save you several precious minutes. Hiking or heavy-style boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
