Cheap Flights to Mexico

Depending on where you're coming from, your flight to Mexico could be a breeze or it could drag on forever. Here are some handy hints that will help you start your next great adventure on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Travelling on a plane can be a comfortable experience if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh set of clothes and a good book. Next, find a spot in your hand luggage for your mobile phone, a charger, medications and perhaps a proper neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel papers and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Put all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by security. Sharp or pointed objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and gasoline, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main priority when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a smart option, as are flat, enclosed shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.

• First things first. Your passport and travel documents will need to be shown to airport security. Have them easily accessible to avoid fumbling around for them.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on luggage must be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that might set the alarms off. Items such as your belt, jacket and earphones need to go through the machine.
• All your electronic devices, including your phone and laptop, must also be scanned.
• Any liquids or gels, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to bring on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• The right choice of footwear can save you several precious minutes. Hiking boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Lightweight sneakers are usually not.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp items or pocket knives in your hand luggage. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked luggage.
