Depending on where you're coming from, your trip to Inca could be a breeze or it could go on forever. We've compiled some tips that will help you start your next big adventure on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be a great experience if you bring the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, leave space in your carry-on bag for your mobile phone, a charger, any medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to take your passport, travel documents and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Sharp objects, like your pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, flares and fuels, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft are no place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfy clothing and pick shoes that are flat, roomy and easy to slip on and off.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

• Airport security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid passport and boarding pass before anything else. Keep them within easy reach.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
• For just a few minutes, you'll need to unplug from technology. Your phone, tablet and any other electronic devices also need to go through the scanner.
• Travelling with your favourite perfume? Not a problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, you can bring it with you on board.
• It's also likely that you'll need to remove your shoes for scanning, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a good idea.
• Airlines won't allow any pocket knives or other sharp items in your carry-on luggage. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked baggage.
