If you're poorly prepared, air travel can be tough. But there's no need to panic. Follow these useful tips for a comfortable start to your time in Athens. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a pleasure if you take the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh set of clothes and a good read. • Want to bring along your favourite hand and nail cream? As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a clear zip-close bag, you're permitted to bring it with you in your carry-on luggage.
• Lightweight sneakers are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Safety boots and other heavy shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
• Sharp items can't be taken on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
