We stayed here for 10 days in May 2018. Beautiful views, clean and had everything you need including washer and dryer. Centrally located to all the 4 corners area. Would stay again! The horses , cows and chickens were a plus. We even had fresh eggs!
This was a great getaway! We went for the week and it was wonderful! Holly and Ben were great hosts and very helpful. My daughter loved the horses and donkeys! Breathtaking views and only a short drive into Durango

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Very homey, clean, views spectacular. Owners easy to work with.
I had an excellent three-night stay at the Sun Mesa House. The location is peaceful, but only a short drive to Durango. Holly was very responsive and was overall a great host!
We were very lucky to book this place. It was very clean & comfortable. The owners were friendly & helpful in suggesting places for us to go. Wish we could have stayed longer.
So this is the upper half of a duplex, a very nice lady lives below with a cocker spaniel who befriended my little doggies. There are only a few stairs to climb, I think 6, which was much better as I had imagined an entire flight of stairs...I might suggest to include that in the pics as it might encourage people who would otherwise be put off by a bunch of stairs.
The actual apartment is well appointed with a great kitchen for cooking, a grill, shared backyard with a nice deck, a ridiculously huge bedroom/bathroom combo, and a half bath if you need it.
My husband and I met Holly when we checked in and her husband a few days later, they are both super nice and pretty laid back folks who have a really neat farm to check out. There are cows, a mule, a donkey, horses, and a super friendly Pyrenees!
The location is great--about 15 minutes into town, so convenient to that, while also allowing you to feel as if you've truly gotten away from the hustle and bustle (Durango isn't really hustle and bustle anyway if you're from even a medium sized city, but still). Durango and the surrounding area is great to explore, so much history and so many great hiking trails!

This was a very relaxing place to spend a few days. The added bonus was the chickens and the mules!
The apartment was clean and comfortable. It was a cozy home away from home and gave us the space to relax.

Tranquility close to town.
Holly and Ben were wonderful hosts! The house had everything we could ask for including fresh eggs from the chickens, The bed was so comfortable! When we weren’t out hiking or in town we spent our time on the deck admiring the breathtaking views of the pastures , animals and mountains. It’s amazing to enjoy such beautiful landscape and yet be so close to town. We look forward to staying again! Ed and Lorri Tucson, Arizona

A Cozy Farm Duplex Just Outside Town
Our stay atop the Florida Mesa was about as peaceful as it comes. While there is a neighbor downstairs and the owner family lives next door, we were never once "bothered". We did get the opportunity to meet the owners who were out working on the farm and they were absolutely pleasant, offering local knowledge regarding hiking.
The home is indeed about 15 minutes all said and done outside the center of downtown Durango, and it is a very simple drive in and out. The house is cozy but plentiful for a couple and certainly doable for more with the pull-out couch. It is a lived-in space but has been kept clean and there were no issues during our stay.
We would highly recommend this spot as convenient to Durango and providing a truly peaceful getaway.

A farm stay with beautiful views!
We had a lovely time in durango. Our kids enjoyed playing on the farm and visiting the animals. Holly was super helpful and was delightful to talk too!
The place was nice, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The only thing that didn’t work was the jetted tub. Seemed to have a leak and wouldn’t hold water.
The king bed was really comfy and it helped having a window air conditioning since it can get pretty warm in the house.
It was a nice stay and if you are looking for a stay on a farm with some animals with some beautiful views then this is the place for you.

Great stay overall
The house was awesome, the owner was very sweet, but the downstairs neighbor was not welcoming and was rude at times, in subtle ways, other than that, great place to stay!

Fresh eggs every day and loved it!
Yes, Holly let us gather two eggs every day, which we cooked up for our breakfast. Yolks are very dark orange....can't buy these at a store.
Loved the moon and stars every night with no light pollution and coyotes howling in the distance...a real country treat. Marilyn and Pat.

Fun small farm experience
The place looks great as always. We have stayed here multiple times and Holly and Ben do a great job of making us feel like we're at home! We just love the views of the mountains and the horses grazing out in the field. It's nice and quiet most of the time except for the occasional donkey bray and the kids playing in the front yard. Our only complaint from last time was the temperature in the afternoon but there is a shiny new AC unit on the wall and it feels nice and cool in here now! Thanks again for the great space to stay and unwind from our busy city life.

Nice, Clean and Efficient
This unit was perfect for my husband, myself and my son. Has a fully bath and a half and laundry facilities. The bed was super comfortable and I adored the chickens out back. It's a five-eight minute drive from Durango which we did not mind at all. I would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful setting in the country
A friendly family welcomed us to their small farm outside of town. The small but comfortable home was a perfect base for our family of 4. My young son enjoyed the toys and swing set. The master bed was comfortable and the sofa bed was made when we arrived for the kids. My only negative comment is that the kitchen isn't stocked enough, fridge was empty ( no condiments), no spices, I could have used a Pyrex dish but was still able to make a couple basic meals.

Excellent Property & Quality People
I loved staying at this beautiful property. The views were amazing. My days starting with coffee and sunrise and ended with good wine and spectacular sunsets. I just loved seeing the horses run in the fields surrounding the house and the owners dogs are so sweet and friendly. The owners, Ben and Holly were delightful hosts. The house itself is comfortable and well appointed. I will definitely be back.

Amazing Hosts, Beautiful View
We stayed in this cozy little place for almost 2 months. It is AWESOME! Holly & Ben are the most amazing hosts. Completely laid back & flexible, yet if you need anything they will do their best to get it to you right away. From their generosity with letting us share in their fresh eggs right from the little chicken house next door, to grabbing things right from their own kitchen if we needed something.
The location is great in so many ways. It is private, Holly & Ben live right next door but they never pester or pry, their little boy is the cutest dude. The views from the kitchen sink or the decks out back are incredible. We watched the sunset almost every night on the mountains, so beautiful. If you're an early riser the sunrises are incredible!
Regarding internet service, some others mentioned having problems. However, we figured out that if you set the DNS settings on your devices to use a different DNS provider than the internet service the internet works flawlessly. We used Netflix and made VoIP calls all the time! We brought our Chromecast and ran Netflix on the great flat screen. Go to Opendns.com for instructions on how to set up any device.
Occasionally the satellite receiver wouldn't want to show video (you could hear the channel, no picture). We figured out that if you didn't turn it off, just let it time out on its own, it would always turn back on without a problem. You can turn off the TV.
A couple things to note: You have a great backyard with two decks to sit out in & enjoy the views, sip your coffee & bbq. However, next door is a little chicken coop, it doesn't smell, but occasionally the chickens get a little excited in the mornings. We enjoyed the entertainment & they never woke us up or bothered our enjoyment of a cup of coffee on the back deck. There are a couple of horses & a donkey. Every now and then the donkey likes to bray a bit when hungry. Its, never annoying (Holly/Ben feed him right away) & actually worth a chuckle or three! The nice thing is the little farm activity is blocked mostly by a beautiful tree and their garden (which Holly offered for us to pick from at our leisure, yum fresh veggies).
Our only complaint was the bed, a bit too hard for us. Holly mentioned they are planning on replacing it soon. We tried it w/o the topper and actually liked it better.

Great views from the top!
We stayed in Sun Mesa for almost a week with a quiet good dog...always welcome...and loved the views of the LaPlatta Mountains. We were on the TOP of the mesa for sure. We did have to get after Rico, the dog for "rushing" the chickens in their pen...but, he caught on quickly. Everything we needed...Great linens, good kitchen stuff...and Holly, Ben and Luca were very friendly folk...we will sure come back...

Beautiful View!
We stayed 5 days at Sun Mesa. The upstairs of the raised ranch was clean, and decorated beautifully. View out the back kitchen and bathroom window - spectacular. If you like animals: 1 donkey, 2 horses, 2 dogs, chickens and 3 visiting cats. Only complaint the owner didn't return my 2nd call when I asked for help with the TV which seemed to appear and disappear!!!! He came over when we arrived but really didn't know how to operate the TV himself. We spent one day and night without TV and finally left without seeing or hearing from him again!

Property needs improvement
We rented the Sun Mesa for the period of July1 to August 15, 2014. The owner asked that we point out things that needed correcting. We pointed out a few of them, but didn't want to seem to be "complainers".
Prior to renting, we explained that we had to have excellent internet reception We were assured that that "wouldn't be a problem". We couldn't even get on the internet. The owner gave me the password to another network which worked, but was extremely slow. I had to install "hotspot" on my iphone which gave us satisfactory service-at an additional expense for the extra gigabytes I used.
You'll see a lot of vehicles surrounding the owner's home (which is just a few feet from the rental). It looked like a used car lot. In fact, it was. The owner bought and sold used diesel SUV's.
We noticed a large number of wasps near the front door. They had a nest in the ceiling just outside the front door. I bought a large can of wasp spray which the owner watched me spray on the nest. The hole remained unrepaired.
The house was advertised as having an air-conditioner. None was present. After a few days, the owner told us she now has the time to find one to rent. We thought we could get by without one, but later changed our mind. A few days later, one was installed.
The propane grill was empty when we went to use it. There were no matches or lighter. We bought one. The grill was mud streaked. The storage area was dirty.
The living room window actually fell out during a normal afternoon rain shower. The owner said he was aware of the problem, and hoped to install new ones some day. It continued to fall out so we applied duct tape to it.
The wire chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Owner-"We know they're uncomfortable but we ran out of money." We bought some lawn chairs.
Mosquito's are quite a problem (lots of irrigation on surrounding properties). The kitchen window screen had holes in it. The yard was seldom mowed.
The microwave ("purchased used from a friend") quit working after a few days.
TV frequently "went blank". No iron or telescope as advertised. No pillows for hide-a-bed. No dresser. No pitcher for drinks. No desk lamp. Electrical outlet was loose. No towel rack in guest bathroom. Main bedroom needs curtains to block out light. A major dislike was the distance to town. That got old real quick.
Two large dogs-one puts his snout between your legs under your crotch. No mail box just for this rental.
