"We stayed here for three nights split into two stays with our Halong Bay cruise in between them. We wanted to travel light for the boat and the hotel had no issue in keeping our suitcases safely locked away for us. From the moment you arrive to the time you depart, you can expect top class service with lots of friendly smiles. One of the front desk managers , Sophie (I guess this as she wore a smart business suit compared to the others who were in traditional Ao Dai outfits), went out of her way to make sure we got our Halong Bay tour bus. As it was a bigger bus it couldn’t come down our tight street so she took the call from our guide and then personally escorted us with one of the doorman up to the corner where she had arranged for us to be picked up. Thanks Sophie! The room was modern in a classic French style and everything worked perfectly. It was small but it was what we paid for and what you expect in a major city where land is precious. We actually got an upgrade to same room type but a better view on both occasions, one with lake views on the top floor. Very comfortable with a great walk in shower and top notch bed and bedding. Breakfast is on the twelfth floor so you get awesome views of the city and Lake Hoan Kiem. Staff are very friendly and very attentive and switched on. Barista coffee is available at an extra cost, but the included coffee and tea will be refilled regularly at your table by one of the numerous vigilant team members. The buffet itself is "

"Very friendly staff who cater to every need. Buffet breakfast includes a variety of pastries, eggs made your way, great Vietnamese coffee and fresh fruits. Roof top bar has great views of the city and st.josephs cathedral. Spa and massage services also very good. Hotel is located in a very central location with access to all sights and amenities. No traffic noise experienced on the 9th floor."

"Royal Palace hotel was our best stay in Vietnam. For $55 a night in the Old Quarter we got a beautiful room (701) and the best service possible. Every time we left the hotel we got a farewell by name and every time we came in they asked us how our time was, which was very appreciated. They didn't push us with tours but when we asked they were so helpful and got us some great trips to Sapa and Halong Bay that we'll never forget. They also charged us the standard price so they weren't tacking on extra commission. They went out of their way to help us at all times. They called us a taxi when we needed it, came with us to the train station so we didn't get too confused and recommended shops and restaurants that were all excellent. "

When the pick-up for the Halong Bay tour I had booked from Japan didn't come, I was waiting aimlessly, and they called the tour company to inquire. While I was waiting, they offered me tea and snacks, and suggested that I wait in the room. I am very grateful for their kind consideration."

"My fiancee and I stayed here during our week long trip to Hanoi. Besides the great location in old quarters, the good food and service, the staff is truly amazing. They especially went above and beyond on our last day when my fiancee got food poisoning the day of our flight. They extended our check out late into the evening so she could get as much rest as possible before the flight. They prepared hot tea and even got the kitchen to cook up some plain congee during off hours once she started recovering a bit. All of this was a no additional cost to us. Just on the great hospitality alone I would highly recommend Grand Hotel du Lac to anyone planning on visiting Hanoi. "

"It’s a beautiful hotel within walking distance to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Lots of food, shopping and travel agencies right outside of the hotel where one can go to book trips, excursions and exchange money. The hotel also has a beautiful rooftop bar and pool. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. It made our stay pleasurable. Our rooms were very clean and we were up on the 8th floor away from the noise. The rooms were lovely, however, I’d suggest that the hotel improve the lighting in the bathroom and provide lighter bed covers. The current thick down comforter is too warm and not comfortable for sleeping. "
