"I am surprised by the high ratings. This hotel is very old and in need of updates. The room smelled like it had been smoked in at some point and there were holes in the wall, peeling wallpaper/paint, and the AC/heater fan had to be constantly on unless you turned off the unit, so it blew in your face at night. The light switch in the bathroom appeared to have blood on it. I had a Clorox wipe so I just wiped everything down. The door to the room let in a lot of light from the hall around it and the room had a connecting door in it so you could hear people next door. The fireplace area when you walk in is nice and the breakfast was pretty good. The bed and pillows were decently comfortable. The hotel staff (a younger girl) at check in was not friendly at all and barely spoke to us. The gentlemen serving the breakfast area was friendly and helpful. Pictures were definitely deceiving on this hotel. "

"Nice, modern and elegant hotel in very good condition and beautiful grounds. Conveniently located when visiting UVA campus. Could be improved: restauration options. Diner and breakfast options were limited and costly. Parking was valet only and expensive."

"The hotel itself was beautiful. Great location. 2 things that were not great were 1.conditioner provided had curdled and was like putting cottage cheese in my hair. Took a lot of rinsing and scrubbing to get it out. Snd 2. Friday night a nearby bar had live music playing very very loudly till 1am. I had a class early sat morning and could not sleep. Otherwise everything was excellent. "

"Decent place. Not the cleanest as there was leftover food on the floor when I arrived but don’t mind that too much. Biggest issue is if you are a light sleeper the walls may be too thin for you. But overall it’s a perfectly fine place to stay. "
