"Beautiful & impressive stately hotel in lovely surroundings , with well-appointed & well-furnished rooms. Got a very friendly welcome, and had requested a room with a view , if possible - and happily got one over looking the rolling countryside towards the Solway Firth. Carlton Hotel

"The room (and possibly the entire hotel) looked to have been renovated recently? No air conditioning in the room and so it was a bit uncomfortable during the night. We only realised there was an electric fan at the back of the cupboard as we were leaving 🙄. The staff were nice and the parking was plentiful. Well located at the Ayr end of the high street and not too far from the beach. The breakfast was very tasty and they offered a good range. Overall we were very happy with our stay."

"What a great little place! The staff were super friendly, rooms were clean and as advertised, food was good and as a solo female traveller I felt very safe. I stayed here for a few days while attending a wedding a nearby GG Yards, and even booked to stay on for an extra night. Gatehouse of Fleet & The Ship Inn had a really nice chilled vibe, plenty of things to do locally, and a lovely spot for exploring this part of Scotland."
