Reservation IGNORED & attempted OVERCHARGING

Horrible experience. Sadly Casa Mara still is offering accomodation over the web that is not availbale when you arrive. (see older feedback of other - rejected - guests) THough having a confirmed booking - Casa Mara had no room available. Furthermore the lady at the reception was very rude and pretended she couldn´t speak english - though she spoke perfectly with others. Spoke very loud with me - though I stayed polite all the time and kept me waiting for 1 1/2 hours. Even worse: When the owner arrived, she "offered" me to stay in different, "private" hostal of a far lower Standard - while I should still pay the high original Casa Mara price. This is a totally inexceptable scandal. Trying to cash in from customers - on OWN mistakes. People with such a mindset don´t belong in the hospitality Business and deserve not to be supported.

Super friendly

I had a lovely stay at Casa Mara, the staff were super friendly and very welcoming. My room was very clean and had hot water, cable tv, aircon and fan, it was cleaned daily. Breakfast choices were freshly prepared and served promptly. The pool is small but great though it could probably do with being cleaned a bit more often. the hotel is in a great location, easy walk to restaurants and tourist sights. I would highly recommend Casa Mara.

Prima hotel!

Net hotel, behulpzaam personeel, goed verzorgd! Zeer schone kamers, prima douche en een goed werkende airco. De grote dak terrassen zijn erg leuk om een borrel te drinken en uit te kijken over Cartagena!

Bait & Switch

We booked this hotel about 10AM on a Sunday morning from Bogota (admittedly, this was last-minute). Wary of the bait & switch tactics some other reviews had mentioned, we sent an email directly to the hotel to confirm booking. Upon arrival at 8:00PM, they told us that they didn't have our booking or our email and that they could move us to one of their other (lesser) hotels down the road (for the same price, mind you!). Upon our insistence, we saw that the email was indeed there. Thier reply was that they don't check emails on Sundays. Really? Come off it. I would only stay here if you get written confirmation that they have your booking. Otherwise the place looked nice, neighbourhood is very colourful.

Not at all what I envisioned. If you want a bed this is it. No place to put suitcases to unpack- not even a chair. bathroom shower missing a water handle- only cold water available. open slats on room door. pool was tiny-smaller than a lap pool. what the hoopla is with this hotel is it is in close proximity to the old colonial district. i checked out after one night.

DECEPCION TOTAL

Primero que todo llegue al Hotel Casa Mara y me dijeron que no me tenian habitacion porque mi reserva no la hice con 24 horas de antelacion. Segundo su solucion fue enviarme a otro hotel en el que me senti como en un motel por horas. Al dia siguiente me enviaron a Casa Mara, la cual tiene un patio encantador, pero la habitacion no era ni parecida a la de las imagenes que promocionan. Al parecer era la unica habitacion asi... todas las otras tenian puertas dobles y desde afuera se veian mas amplias.

Ao chegarmos disseram que apesar da reserva feita não teriam quartos e ofereceram outro hotel do grupo que seria melhor, no outro dia voltamos porque mesmo com boas condições do hotel não conseguimos dormir com uma discoteca ao lado. Então nos entregaram um quarto grande bem velho, o porteiro não nos acordou no horário pedido e queriam cobrar um valor a mais no fechamento.

Small Hotel with Swimming Pool

It's clean, reasonably price, well staffed and well located. And it has a swimming pool. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Cartagena and I've stayed here five times - that says it all.

A bit overpriced

Compared with what you can get in Cartagena for the same price, this place is expensive and, maybe that is why they had so few guests when I was there. The big selling point for me was having a pool for a couple of days. However, they closed it for cleaning without any discussion. Not good.

Quaint and Enjoyable

I enjoyed my stay here. It's name bellies the fact that it is more of a hotel than hostel with individualized rooms with private bathrooms with showers. The hotel as a very cute faux-Moorish architectural design with a nice little pool in the middle and arm chairs, where guests can lounge around to read books or chat with their friends thanks to the good Wifi connection. The rooms are simple but comfortable with well-functioning TVs with an assortment of Spanish-language and English channels. The shower didn't have boiling hot water but with the 33 Celsius weather, its warm-ish water does the trick. The staff is very nice, young, multiracial and friendly, willing to help you with any of your needs, including doing laundry for you without you even having to ask! I chose to spend three days here and three days at a relatively nearby luxury boutique hotel. While I thoroughly enjoyed the boutique hotel, I also had a great time here. By Cartagena standards, this place provides good value for the price.
