"We booked for two nights expecting more to explore. In early Dec? Many things are closed (historical sites, etc). If you're passing thru' I'd say Piombino is a nice town for a one night stop. Especially if en route to Elba. Otherwise? Well this hotel has a perfect location if arriving by triain (3 min walk). And it's right at the top of the pedestrian zone going down to the water.
