The Grand Hotel

"Lovely hotel, the communal areas are well maintained and have been refurbished as have the spa and pool area. Outdoor pool was lovely in the hot weather but could have been cleaned more regularly. Maybe also have a few newer sun loungers. The rooms were dated, paint peeling but were clean enough. Service in restaurant was good, and breakfast had a good selection. Check out and check in was a little slow and had to wait for iron and ironing board for two hours and only received after asking cleaning staff directly rather than at reception. Great location with a cute beach nearby and lovely harbour within walking distance. Lots to do in the area. Nice cocktails at the bar. Would suggest having a pre dinner drink on the balcony there for a good view. It’s probably worth paying extra for the newer refurbished rooms."

"Had a lovely stay at the Durant Arms. The staff were lovely. A special mention about Jan; she brought a smile to both my face and my partner's face at breakfast. I do hope she has not shrunk anymore. Lovely location, lovely room and a really pleasant break."

"All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was not ready at the expected time but the staff quickly apologised and kindly offered a complimentary drink whilst we waited.The hotel is very old and some areas require attention (eg window sills, facias and mold in shower). The room (no 20) was large, comfortable and well appointed. Housekeeping were not able to supply a firmer pillow when requested. Breakfast was very good but the evening meal was a little disappointing ( fish pie very good but accompanying vegables not so - tenderstem broccoli was very tough)."

"Ein sehr idyllisch gelegenes Häuschen mit viel Ruhe drumherum. Das Haus war sehr sauber und alles notwendige war da. Der große Gemeinschaftspool war besonders bei den Kindern sehr beliebt. Der Wäscheservice und die Kommunikation waren unkompliziert. Viele hilfreiche Informationen zum Haus, zur Umgebung und zu Aktivitäten wurden wunderbar übersichtlich im Haus zur Verfügung gestellt. Wir konnten viele Unternehmungen starten. Es war während unserer Zeit im Sommer sehr warm, zwei Lüfter im Haus konnten etwas helfen (und natürlich der große Pool)."

"The house is in a great location, convenient to shopping, restaurants, and gorgeous hiking. The kitchen is well equipped and a patio is especially pleasant. It would benefit from a deep cleaning, refresh of decor (Knick knacks and plastic flowers be gone!), and better instructions. We foreigners struggled to figure out the shower system, for example. But all appliances worked well. The welcome book is outdated. And Totnes was a super anchor for our exploration of Devon."
