“Such a pleasant change from the more corporate hotels”
Opus Montreal is so funky that the staff wear matching black and pink shoes, yet every staff member we spoke with really wanted us to enjoy our stay. We were greeted with a glass of good champagne on check in... and impressions just got better. No request was a problem, directions and advice were given freely. Our room was practical and good looking, with a bathroom that was actually big enough, and taps that function logically. Best hotel I've stayed at in a long time.
“hotel opus - just needs light and free wireless”
Overall the hotel is great, staff are great, location is great! The only downsides: lighting & wireless. The rooms are VERY dimly lit, makes it difficult to see anything once the sun sets. Great ambiance if you are having a romantic escape, but if not its just irritating! (I am not old either!) My only other critical feedback - why is free wireless not available in the rooms??? In the developing world, free wireless is easily accessible. In a G8 country - not so much. So instead you have to skype or email in the hotel lobby - not so cool. The upside of spending time in the lobby - free coffee and tea. Additional tip: Breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel - very over priced. Run across the street to the Tim Horton's in the gas station Esso and buy a bagel and creme cheese and save $20!
“On my short list of places to stay”
I has been the place I most like staying in Montreal for several years.
“No recommended unless under 30 years old”
Far too noisy for this level of hotel, not made aware of parking fee, $15 for internet per day is ridiculous.
“Montreal Opus”
It's a very good hotel and expedia has a very good price
“Excellent Hotel”
Only stayed one night, on a Monday. Noise from the street was not a problem at all, nor was noise from the bar below (we were on the 2nd floor). Great hotel, and excellent location if you want to be central to night life in Montreal. Rooms were exactly as advertised, and very comfortable.
“Less than impressed”
We were very excited to be staying at a cute boutique hotel in Montreal until we actually got there. The lobby and restaurant are beautifully decorated, but the welcoming staff and check-in personnel were less than welcoming and did not seem to have very much information about their surrounding neighborhood in terms of highlights for entertainment and dining. The rooms were poorly maintained with paint peeling from the walls as the doors would rub against them, denuding the paint. The room was not cleaned the next day as we were told that we should have asked for them to be cleaned. However, there was nothing to inform us on how we should have asked. A sign, a phone call? The rooms were dark and poorly lit. Hard to see at night. All in all, Montreal is a beautiful city but I would not go back to this hotel and would not suggest that anyone go. I don't see how they earned their 4 star rating.
“A Great Place for a Moderate Price!”
Opus is a small relatively new hotel designed in a modern/post-modern motif; lots of glass, dark colors, and cool music. When we arrived the front desk staff quickly and politely checked us in. Our room was, of course, ready and very presentable; a welcoming oasis after a long car trip. The car park staff was extremely efficient, helpful and friendly; especially Tony. For a small hotel I found the fitness room to be of a decent size and in excellent condition with a more than adequate assortment of clean equipment. One rainy evening we ate at their sleek restaurant "Koko" (Pan-Asian) while a bit loud, had a fine waitstaff serving excellent food to a hip, sophisticated, local crowd. It was fun!
“Great Modern Boutique Hotel”
I was here the first day of Jazz festival. Opus is a beautiful boutique hotel near eveything. I walked to the plaza where all of the venues were for the jazz festival. You are also near all of the trendy shops. Really delicious cafes and restauarants are also within walking distance. Chinatown is also close. I had amazing dim sum here on my last day. I loved the king size bed with the comfortable duvet cover and plush pillows. The bathroom was also so ultra modern and cool. The only complaint is that they had bad reception with their cable. The staff is also freinedly and helpful. This hotel is really for the younger people. Business travellers or older people would not enjoyed Opus since there is so much going in and around the hotel all day long. Can't wait to go back.
“Nice Surprise”
What a pleasant surprise the Opus Hohtel Montreal turned out to be. I had been a bit concerned about the "noise" factor mentioned in other reviews. Fortunately, I was put into a room on the 4th floor facing the quiet street side of the hotel. That said, the hotel bar is very happening and nice. Music is good, though loud, with an outdoor seating area. The hotel allowed my friend to recharge his mobile phone...nice touch. Only downside was a false fire alarm on Saturday night. I suspect it was set off by one of the party goers in the club / building. Good location for walking to the Village / St Catherine or Boulevard Saint Laurent west of Sherbrooke. The area between the hotel and St Catherine's on Boulevard Saint Laurent is, shall we say, colorful. Plenty of people on the street, so did not feel unsafe. If you take the airport bus (747), be sure to have coins and not paper notes. Fortunately, the driver let me put in all the coins I had even though it was less than the full price. Thanks, Montreal!
