“Work in progress”
I stayed at this hotel as a last minute business booking-- for reasonable price and good location, next to Paddington and decent restaurants. Half of the hotel appears to be under renovation, and the corridors stank of paint and varnish. The heating in the room did not work-- on a particularly cold day. the rooms are not depressing, but not cheery either. Despite providing a credit card for incidentals, room service demanded to charge for room service on the spot with a credit card machine-- never seen this before. Room service food was edible, but hugely overpriced. Two of the staff were extremely friendly, while two were rude beyond belief. Unless you're on the first floor, order to get to one's room one has to navigate a warren of steps and stairs before getting to a minuscule lift. On checkout the staff offered to compensate for the lack of heating, but only against a future stay. If pressed, this isn't a horrible place to stay, but there are much better deals out there.
“Great location, very small room.”
Great location, very convenient to Tube, museums and Kensington attractions generally. Very small hotel room. Great that wifi is available for free.

“Not a 4 Star rating Hotel.”
Its unfortunate that this hotel is not a 4 star Rating because the Staff are fantastic and very accomadating, however, the bedding is extremely uncomfortable. Mattresses really need to be changed. The first night we arrived they gave us 2 single beds when we requested a double room. To be honest this was not a big deal, however the bedding was so uncomfortable that we did not sleep at all. we complained the next morning and the staff were more than happy to change our room with an upgrade and complimentary breakfast which was so nice of them. However the beds were still very uncomfortable. Everything else was fine. Location not quite in the heart of things. Hotel is situated in South Kensington. Close to Hop on Hop off bus stop so that helps to get you into city centre. Free wifi was offered which is great, since alot of hotels make you pay for internet.
“Convenient place to Stay”
I stayed at this hotel during the first weekend in October 2011. The check in process was quick and very friendly. The room was very clean and actually a bit larger than I had expected. The bathroom was nicely appointed and the shower worked well. My room faced Glouchester Road which is very busy and can be quite loud. With the window closed the noise was not really an issue. The hotel included a restaurant and a bar, although I didn't use either one. The only negative for me was that it had been very hot in London for the time of year and room was still a little too warm. The climate control in the room was more of a fan and not an air conditioner. The location was just around the corner from the underground and this makes the hotel very well suited to get around to other areas of London.
“Love the hotel-hate the beds”
Every time I come to London I stay at this hotel. It is in a great location, close to Harrod's, across from the tube and generally very convenient. However, on this most recent trip I found the bed to be most uncomfortable. They are in process of installing new carpet and new wallpaper when they should invest in comfortable beds for their customers. On the 3 nights I stayed there I didn't have "one" good night's rest!
“Fantastic experience”
The location of this hotel could not have been more convenient to the underground. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful; the overall experience was outstanding.
“London at your fingertips”
The Vanderbilt is a boutique hotel on one of the main roads into London - room was spacious - don't eat breakfast there - too expensive when you're on an Aussie dollar - go across the road to Garfunkels - you'll get two full English breakfasts for 10 pound. Also if in London for a few days buy a Octopus pass for transport - it costs five pound for the card which you get back when you leave and you can add any amount - we were in and out of the city regularly each day and for a week it was only abou 18 pound for the Tube - Glouster St Station is just across from the hotel. If you come back to the hotel hungry and can't be bothered going out I strongly recommend the hotels ham and turkey baugettes - they are delicious and great value for money.
“London”
aC didn t work that well. Only blanket option was very heavy. hotel had work going on. Rugs outside our door. took two tries to pay a 67cent bill for a phone call No one had change. Neighborhood was very nice and easy access from the hotel to e erything
