“a great value”
This hotel was in an area that is supposed to be where you can see many notables, especially in the evening, but we weren't out at that time. There is a subway station nearby. A great value for a London hotel.
“Overall good hotel”
Pleasnt staff, good location, well maintained spacious family room. Would return to this hotel.
“OK hotel with great location”
This hotel is in a run-down area, but very convenient to underground transportation. We felt a little uneasy at first seeing people climbing over the walls of vacant buildings across the street when we first got there, but we didn't feel too unsafe walking the streets as there was a lot of foot traffic. The room we had was rather run-down and not very clean. One night we arrived back to broken glass in the bathroom and on the carpet by the bathroom. Housekeeping must have dropped something on the floor and didn't get all the glass cleaned-up. The night staff came with a vacuum and cleaned it up for us. All-in-all if you can live with somewhat less than acceptable levels of cleanliness and upkeep for a great location at a reasonable price, it would work great.
“I'll head for the City Hotel when I return to London.”
Good hotel with a good staff. Right on Brick Lane, a hot-spot on Friday nights in the Pubs. Good walking; subway for all points just around the corner. Even a KFC and Burger King are close by. I recommend this hotel to the person who doesn't want to pay a fortune for the same service and respect the person can find at the City Hotel.
“Reasonable Accomodation”
This hotel provides reasonable accomodation at a reasonable fee. It's just a block to the train and is particularly well-suited to young budget travellers. The neighborhood is ecclectic and crowded and the adjacent bar can become quite loud. The blocks to the North are full of art students on the prowl for a drink and the blocks leading to the river (and the Tower) to the South are run down as is the West. The Hammersmith train line runs a bit less frequently here, but that shouldn't pose a problem for those who want to get to the city hotspots. A strong walker can hike to Trafalgar square in less than an hour and see St. Paul's and everything in between. For mature tourists who seek a quieter more upscale setting, and have more expendable resources for nicer accomodations and cab fares, locations closer to the river should be preferred.
“Londons not so nice district”
Definately NOT a diamond in the rough, its just a bad hotel in a bad area. This hotel looks nothing like the modern pictures it portrays. I did have a flat screen TV, but that was the only update to the room. I would have rather had the holes patched in my walls, or the floors cleaned. I did not go barefoot in this room. I slept with the lights and TV on the entire time. I called about a discusting smell in the room and they told me they didn't smell anything. The fan didn't work, the AC didn't work withought smelling worse, so the room was horrible. When you walk out of the hotel, you have grafiti all over and abandoned lots/buildings. Try walking around the area for dinner and you will find you get harrassed to eat at the 1000's of Indian restaurants around all claiming to be the best. If you take a right out of the hotel, and walk over a mile, you will find an outdoor grill with chicken, brats, burgers and potatoes that is really good. Worth the walk. The hotel was not worth the money and is very misleading. I was not happy and hope nobody else makes this mistake.
“not really”
They did give me a good room but after there was several problems. Very Clean.
“Not recommended”
The room I was given was nothing like the picture on the website. Lots of street noise. Mattress did not have a mattress pad. When I complained, I was given the room that matched the picture on the website.
“I would go back.”
Great service, very polite staff, very clean room. Convenient place-close to the subway.
“Great hotel for travelers using the Tube”
Overall, I thought this hotel was great. It's quiet at night, the rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was decent. The best part of the hotel for us was its close proximity (less than a block) from a Tube station. It's just perfect for travelers who want to hop on the train and visit all the touristy sites. We stayed at this hotel for all 4 days while we were in London and would choose to stay there again if we were given the chance.
