“It is a very good choice in its own cathegory”
We have spent 5 nights in the Hotel in January 2009. It has satisfied our expectations. The Hotel has an advantageous location for a tourist, close to the main sights in the Sultanahmet district, and as in a side-street, avoiding heavy traffic and noise. The hotel has two building, the breakfast was served in a pleasant hall in between the two. (We heard that the breakfast served on the top of the main building during the summer, where you'll find a nice view.) We booked 2 rooms, and although one of them was a double room instead of a twin-bedded one, but maybe this was the only way to have the two rooms on the same floor. We asked non-smoking rooms, and really, the rooms didn't have any smoky smell. The rooms were modest and clean. The bathroom was ok., modern equipment, although not the best possible arrangement inside. The shower-cabin had sufficient size. The heating was functioning well and one could control it easily. The rooms weren't noisy, just some trains, birds and restoration work, all within the easily acceptable limits. The persons in charge were kind, they replaced the missing bulbs and spotlights within a half an hour, (altogether 3 were missing in 2 bathrooms.) Also, they replaced the broken shower-pipe very quickly. The breakfast was nice in a simple and pleasant surrounding. Altogether we enjoyed our stay very much.
“Lovely”
A very cute and comfortable hotel that provides a lovely buffet breakfast in the morning, we were made to feel so 'at-home' by the hotel staff we referred to it as 'home' whilst there. The view from the Poem Hotel's roof-top is stunning, the sea, the mosques and the city all around you! The AC was a must-have and turned the room in to a haven after a day of sight-seeing, the great thing about the location is the number of companies nearby that can arrange tours to various destinations. The only suggestion I would make to the hotel is the shower room in the 'For you' room needs a better curtain to prevent water from spilling outside the shower area.
“Just quality...”
We had an excellent stay. The room was perfect with an impressive view of the river Bosphorus. Very good breakfast. The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to stay there. I would improve the signposting because it was a little bit difficult to find.
“Excellent, given it's category.”
The Poem Hotel was fine. A bit quirky (each room is themed after a 'famous' Turkish poem which is hung up for you to read and admire, such as 'War & Lovers' or 'Ballad of the Gypsy'), but given the price and the product I was very pleased. The hotel is very central to the main tourist sites (Blue Mosque & Hagia Sophie are 2-3 mins walk) and the livlier parts of town are easily accesed by the 4T bus from Sultanahmet Square or by taxi. Don't be put off by the horrendously trashy and touristy Akbiyik Cadd nearby, where you will be gently hassled to buy a carpet or go into a restaurant, because Poem Otel is set off on a quiet side street. Lots of steps, no elevator, so it wouldn't be good for anyone with a disability. Room was comfortable, very clean and recently repainted with comfortable beds and clean sheets daily. Our room ('War & Lovers') had GREAT VIEWS of the Bosphorous and Asia. Bathroom also in good shape. TV got a few international channels. Staff friendly but not all could speak English past a greeting. The breakfast was interesting - typical Turkish breakfast of bread, cheese, tomatoes, honey, jam etc - but it's good for the price.
“Impressed & would go back”
Poem Hotel is in an excellent location within 10 minutes walk to Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque & Sultanahment tram stop. There's a delightful terrace with view of the Bosphorus to have breakfast. All rooms are named after poems. The 'War Lovers' room was pleasant with good views.
“Ideally situated for the Blue Mosque area”
The owners of the hotel were very helpful & friendly. The rooftop terrace was bliss after walking around the city, views over the Bospherous & Marmaris Sea. Plenty of eating places around & the Blue Mosque area is a 5 min walk away.
“Friendly, clean and well-located hotel”
This was a lovely hotel: the staff were friendly and helpful, there was free internet access, and the roof terrace had great views of the Blue Mosque and out across the Bosphorus. The location is good in Sultanahmet; close to the Blue Mosque and Haghia Sofia, with lots of friendly little restaraunts nearby.
“Leaping dolphins!”
I had such a nice time staying in the hotel: the staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel is quite simple but very pretty and has a really good location, really near Blue Mosque and Haghia Sohia but just enough off the main street in Sultanahmet to make it very quiet and secluded. Can eat your breakfast on a leafy terrace. Our room "War and Lovers" had a gorgeous view of the Bosphorus and in the early evening we could watch dolphins leaping in the sea, amazing!
“Perfect Base for Sightseeing”
Hotel Poem is on a side street just off Akbiyik Street, which is lined with restaurants, travel agents and useful mini-markets. It's a few minutes walk from Sultan Ahmet and the Blue Mosgue. There's a view of the Bosphoros from the roof terrace, and you can glimpse the sea walls. Two old-style wooden houses joined by a pavilion which houses the breakfast bar, the hotel is unpretentious, clean, well-looked after and adequately comfortable. Staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful beyond the call of duty. It couldn't be more convenient as a base for visiting the Old City.
“Fantastic Hotel”
If you're looking for friendly and hospital staff, clean rooms, and great location from restaurants to sightseeing this is the hotel. The free breakfast is worth waking up for. I will definitely stay there again.
