The 286-room, eight-story Castle Hilo presents a curved face to Hilo Bay, all the better for enjoying how the sky lights up when the sun drops behind 13,796-foot Mauna Kea. Within a few minutes' walk of the hotel is the large, Japanese-style Liliuokalani Park, which is a favorite strolling spot for visitors.

“Best Buy”
Compared to its neighbors, this is a best buy on Banyon.
“Lovely hotel”
The setting is beautiful and the staff is polite, friendly and very helpful. We were on a tight budget so we didn't use the restaurant or lounge, but the posted prices didn't seem out of line. We really enjoyed having our morning coffee on the balcony of our room!
“The place to stay in Hilo.”
The staff is excellent and very courteous. The Ocean View is a must as the other side of the hotel is a view of trees.
“"User Friendly Hotel"”
The hotel is definately the best hotel on Banyon Drive, which is the best place to be. The location is perfect and the hotel is "user friendly." Parking your car, walks in the beautiful gardens, location of restrooms in the hotel, the gift shop/general store and of course the restaurant are all terrific. It is also located close to town and many other attractions in Hilo. I think it needs to be "updated" a bit and installing lights to shine on the water at night would add alot to this hotel. We will definately stay there again when we return to Hilo.
“Pretty good”
Had a full ocean view room. The hotel isn't like those large resort places. It was a beautiful view of Hilo Bay. I think the best view that you can get. Service was nice. I had a 10 month baby so they sent up a full sized crib. it was huge!
“Best hotel on the East side of Big Island”
Most people go to Kona and enjoy the hot summer weather year round but no trip to Hawaii is complete with out a stay on the East side of the Island and the Castle Hilo Hawaiian is the best Hotel in Hilo and one of my favorites for the whole island.
“Would stay here again.”
Beautiful views, walk to gardens and island beach. You can watch the sea turtles from the bridge outside of the hotel to coconut island.
“Best hotel in Hilo”
Great hotel in Hilo...the room's view was calming. Looking out into the bay with a small island in the middle. Also, we could look at a partial view of the Japanese gardens. The room was a regular room but the view was spectacular; clean and comfortable.
“A Grande Olde Dame”
The Hilo Hawaiian is a grande olde dame. She can still do the hula but is a little tired. Her rates and location are stupendous, making a hotel stay affordable and even possible in this decidedly different day and age. If you want Godiva chocolates on your bed pillow, stay somewhere else. If you want free Internet, it's not available.
“Best Hotel in Hilo”
Every time I travel to Hilo ,which after this last trip makes 4, I stay at the Hilo Hawaiian. It has great views if you are facing the bay or even if you are on the Banyan Drive side. Some people say that the hotel is dated. You know what, maybe it is a little dated but I love this hotel just the way it is. Great views, and large, clean rooms. Every employee I came in contact with was friendly.I love Hilo because it is a city for locals not the tourist. I only suggest you make sure that if you are on the third floor that you are not right above the roof of the conference room since you will not have a lanai.
