Hale Honu Steps from the Ocean at Maunaloa Shores Condo in Hilo!

  • Enjoy the amazing location of Hale Honu, unit 108 at Maunaloa Shores in Hilo's Keaukaha beach park area! Walk a few feet to the famous Carlsmith Beach Park where you can swim in the clear Pacific ocean. Our condo is named for the sea turtles (called 'honu' in Hawaiian) that frequent our beach. This unit is on the first floor above the lobby is accessed through the building's secure elevators. You'll have views of the swimming pool below and glimpses of the ocean beyond. The surrounding area is lush and green with lovely jungle views from the lanai.

    Hale Honu has two bedrooms and one bathroom and sleeps and sleeps up to four guests. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking appliances, range, oven, a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher and a full set of dishes etc. Pick up local seafood and produce from one of Hilo's fresh food markets. Eat at our dining table for four or on the covered condo lanai. Both bedrooms offer a closet and a dresser for clothes storage. The oceanside bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed. The bathroom is between the two bedrooms and has a full bathtub with shower, toilet and one sink.

    Visit Hilo, Hawaii which still exudes the original charm of 'old Hawai'i' with lush jungle landscapes, ocean parks for relaxing in the Pacific Ocean, colorful farmer's markets with loads of tropical fruits, and enough great restaurants and quaint shops to fill several weeks of exploring. Don't forget to drive to Volcanoes National Park about 45 minutes by car to experience the wonders of an active Volcano. And drive up the Hamakua Historic Coastal Corridor to view dashing waterfalls and plantation era villages. This is where Hawai'i lives!

Great place to stay!

Property was very clean and nicely furnished. Amazing location right next to a great beach for snorkeling and watching sea turtles. Condo was very comfortable even without AC.

We stay on this property pretty much every time we go to Hilo. Super easy check in and out. Loved have the beach amenities! Super close walk to 4 mile which is easily one of the best beaches on the Hilo side!

It was an enjoyable stay.

Just steps from a fantastic beach, and a short walk to several others. The unit is in a great location, secure, and quite comfortable. The Wi-Fi works well. The kitchen had everything we needed. You can be at grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers' markets within a short drive. I'd stay here again.

Thank you for providing access to your home for vacation. The rental was clean and comfortable. We were very close to beautiful parks and the ocean. The lanai was large enough for all 4 adults in our party to enjoy together with a lovely view of the grounds and peaks of the water. We spent time in old Hilo as well as the nearby falls. Lovely little spot near best snorkeling in Hilo

Loved our stay! We chose this property based on its proximity to Richardson Beach and it did not disappoint. The unit had everything we needed - even a cooler bag for a day trip to Kilauea. We felt comfy and very much at home. Really loved the artwork! The building itself is showing its age, but the unit is very much up to date. We enjoyed the rooster next door crowing us awake every morning at just the right time. We'd definitely come back for another stay.good morning

Hawaii sister vacation

This property was a great find for us. The location was a short drive to everything we wanted to see. The unit was clean & comfortable. We had a partial view of the ocean but had great wave sounds! Located right next to Carlsmith Beach was perfect. The beach is a rocky beach, not sand. The only downfall was the unit was missing a toaster. If we ever make it back to Hawaii we would stay here again.

Wonderful week in Hilo

My husband and I stayed in this condo for 9 days and enjoyed every minute. First of all, Salt Water Vacations staff were wonderful. We had a local liaison introduce herself and was present for any concerns we might have had. They bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable. The condo was very comfortable and inviting. The bed in the main bedroom was so comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. We met many wonderful people there at Mauna Loa Shores. Big shout out to Mr. Gomez, the building supervisor. Extremely helpful. I enjoyed the pool every day and the best part of the day was swimming in the lagoons of Carl Smith park. Right behind the building. Turtles!! beautiful. Will for certain return.

Hale Honu Steps from the Ocean at Maunaloa Shores Condo in Hilo review. The room booking was easy, and the management company was very responsive before and during our stay. The Condo is well-kept and clean. We had a wonderful time during our stay. This place is right next to Carlsmith Beach Park. I loved getting up in the morning and listening to the birds. At night, I like listening to the coquí frogs. They grow on you. Right behind the building is a dense forest to the right and the beach park to the left. You can go swimming or snorkeling in the ocean very close to the building. Rinse off in the shower and then hit the facility pool. We plan on coming back. It is not too far from downtown Hilo, and the Hilo Airport is very close. Thank you for letting us stay. Mahalo Nui Loa.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This unit was in a great location from Hilo and we loved being right next to the ocean. However, we arrived to find the room had the distinct smell of mold. We found mold on the curtains and in the picture frames which made us somewhat wary. Its clear that this is an older condo and could definitely use some renovation. Carpets in Hilo seems like a bad idea with all the moisture.

Spacious for my daughter & I, clean, great Lanai (patio) the frogs are noisy but I am used to it. Bring ear plugs if you are sensitive. This not fancy, it is practical and the surroundings are the vacation. The pool is a quiet bonus. Our grounds manager is amazing. Laundry is small but I was able to get it done. Needs 2.25 per load in quarters. The wild cats and roosters make it home. Wander across the street to the Seaside restaurant and order the Hamakua mushrooms and a Lychee martini

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property was an ideal distance from town and everything Hilo has to offer. However, there is no air conditioning in the unit (although common in Hilo, it would have been nice to know ahead of time through the listing). As a result, you have to open the windows to cool the unit. The unit is next to a busy road that is incredibly loud. If you want to turn on a fan at night instead of open a window, you can't because the fan is connected to a light that cannot turn off. Also do not try to contact the management company because they will not respond. Overall, the place felt very safe and close to a great snorkeling location, but this is not a great place for sleeping.

The property is older but it was a great location right next to the beach. It had a damp smell when we first walked in but we opened the windows and door and it went away. The pool looked dirty so we didnt use it but we saw others who swam in it. Having to use a key to open the elevator was a bit irritating when you have your hands full. Also, this is a non smoking property. If you smoke you have to walk out of the parking lot. The unit itself was great, other then it does not have AC. The standup fans were nice to have and we used them everyday. They had everything we needed for the beach, which was wonderful. We used the rafts and the chairs. The air pump was great to have. Thanks for thinking of that! We never used the stove, only the microwave and toaster. Both worked just fine. The water in the shower doesnt get hot, just warm, but with no AC, cool showers were nice. All of the furniture in the unit was comfortable. The beds, couches and chairs, even the balcony chairs were comfortable. There isnt a washer and dryer in the unit but there is one coin washer and dryer on the floor next to the elevator. The closets and dressers have plenty of space. They only have about 8 hangers for use though so if you want to hang things you'll have to go buy hangers. The parking spot is right in front of the unit so you can see your car if you open the door. I loved the screen on the front door. It was nice to let the air flow through the unit when the balcony door was open too.
