“Its horses for courses”

This is an hotel best suited to weekday visits by businessmen. It is comparatively well priced, clean and welcoming. The adjacent bar/restaurant is more bar than restaurant and is operated independently. It is not open for weekend evening meals and better value for all meals is obtainable nearby. The hotel rooms are relatively small but, on balance, the hotel is fair value. My recommendation would be limited to the business traveller.

“Great boutique hotel”

A wonderful hotel within 5 minutes walk of Brisbane city and Riverside wharf, 10 minutes to Fortitude valley.

“Diamant”

Room small, nowhere to sit apart from the bed. This is OK for a short stay period otherwise could be a problem

“Very impressed in some ways, not in others”

Impressed by: modern, new, stylish in lobby, rooms and restaurant attached. The customer service was fantastic - all three desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. The evening desk gal even gave us an umbrella when we ventured out that night for a bite to eat. Very clean. about couple of blocks from train station and although it is right in the city, access to the motorway to either Gold Coast (South) or North is a couple of blocks away - very handy for avoiding traffic jams if driving a car. Not impressed by: no business centre so unless you have your own laptop don't heed the amenities description that there is internet. Rooms are small with not a lot of space including bathroom - not a lot of counter space at all. No guest parking except for Valet at 25$ per night. There is another hotel right across the street that has free hotel parking if you stay there. You can use the Parkade across the street beside the Novotel at 10$ per night. I would definitely recommend this hotel but just be prepared for the above mentioned.

“Great boutique hotel”

Stayed at the portal for 3 nights in november 2010. Whilst the rooms arent huge, they are ample enough for a couple. Modern furnishings, and well appointed with all that you would expect. No pool though, which is almost a must for a qld hotel. Great location, only 5 mins walk to central station. 10 mins to queen st mall. The O bar and restaurant is VERY VERY popular on friday and saturday nights, and well worth a drink there...watch for the weekly specials!

“OK for short stay”

Portal hotel staff were friendly and efficient. The room was very small, but had all the basics. The walls are not well insulated, so noise from other rooms could be heard. Location is close to central station which is handy, but it is a bit of a walk (hilly) to centre of Brisbane. There was a problem with the airconditioning which made the room like a sauna. The staff fixed it when asked, but the same problem occurred again second night. The hallway was cooler than the room and the windows could not be opened. Overall the stay was satisfactory.

“Not very impressed”

The hotel was new, modern, and clean but very small. Also, the lounge/bar/grill below the hotel closed early on the weekends with no room service which was disappointing since we just traveled 17 hours on our flight. Not a good hotel for a holiday but would probably be fine for business. Close 10-15 min walk to the downtown area, however, its quite an uphill walk back up to the hotel.

“Box rom in Brisbane”

The room was clean and bed comfortable but the size of this room is more associated with Central London than Brisbane. There was barely enough room for the bed. Whilst the location is reasonable for the CBC (15 mins walk), the best bit of the location is that it is only 5 mins from the Central Station. The designer breakfast was poor value for money. I would only recommend this hotel if you wanted a convenient located hotel for the Central station, but look else where for breakfast
