“Would definitely return.”

Went off season (mid November), but had excellent weather. The hotel location is excellent, but what stands out is the quality of the service by all staff. Location is very convenient to shopping, parking and beach restaurants. Stayed in the historic part of hotel with views of ocean that were outstanding, especially early in the morning. Would definitely return to this hotel !!

“Little heaven in Positano”

We stayed at Hotel Palazzo Murat for 4 nights during our honeymoon. The hotel staff was so considerate and helpful in every possible way. They provided personalized services (including a light breakfast at 5:30 in the morning because we had to check out at 6:00am to catch an early morning flight) and useful information regarding the neighborhood and tourism sites (maps, schedules for local transportation, shuttles to local restaurants and limousine to Naples airport, etc). Highly recommended for honeymooners and tourists! We're already planning on returning for our 10-year anniversary!

“The best hotel in Positano”

We had an unbelievable time in Positano at the Palazzo Murat. The entire experience was first class, from the time we arrived and greeted with fresh lemonade, to the fresh Bellini's and wonderful breakfast overlooking the Mediterranean. When we go back to the Amalfi Coast, the Palazzo Murat will certainly be the place we stay.

“Excellent location and hospitable staff”

We had a wonderful time at the Palazzo Murat. The free boat excursion was fantastic!! That was the highlight of our stay. Thanks for the special treatment we received for our honeymoon. It was a very special touch!

“Beautiful view”

Can't say enough about this hotel choice. It is in a great location, the view from a lateral sea view is spectacular (we had room 19), the service is impeccable and a reasonable breakfast was included. They really do cater to all your needs and were most helpful confirming train connections, giving recommendations and making reservations.

Area recommendations

After visiting Ravello, we wished we had spent two nights of the four there. It was beautiful and there was more authentic shopping there. We spent the whole day with Mamma Agata cooking school there and it was outstanding, but we both agreed Ravello was so charming, that we wished we had more time there. Also, Lucibello speedboat to Capri was great. They circle the whole island to view the grottos (blue grotto is additional fee, of course) and you save time by not having to jet boat to Capri and then stand in line to buy a jet boat ticket. Anacapri has the most amazing views EVER and is a charming little town. We shared a 6 person convertible taxi with others from our boat and it was a fast and reasonable way to see the island. The driver took us to some beautiful vistas. We passed busses packed with people, which in our opininion would not have been a relaxing and fun way to tour the island. The cab cost us about 20 Euro per person, and was fun and well worth the $. We were there before Easter. In Positano, Christine Ornelas' Discover Positano tour was also well done and worth the time and money.

When to go

The week before Easter was great. Weather in low 70s and the boat services in Positano were offering more schedules due to holiday week. Wished we had done Easter in Positano, rather than Rome, which was crazy busy. They do a good Friday sort of parade through the streets in Positano that would have been great to see.

Getting there

Had a private driver from Naples airport to Positano for about 75 Euro and then one to Naples train station. We used a service out of Sorrento, who claimed to have english speaking drivers, but in both cases, the driver could only say hello and how much our fare was. We wished we had gotten a recommendation from the hotel and maybe paid a little more for someone who would stop for pics on the beautiful coastline and give a bit of narration while driving. High speed train to Rome was easy to navigate and reasonably priced.

Getting around

The coastal bus is crowded and not particulary comfortable. The price is right. Plan your excursions carefully. The last bus out of Ravello left very early and same for out of Amalfi back to Positano. The last bus was also standing room only and quite uncomfortable. We were unwilling to pay the high cab fare back to Positano and last ferry was 6:10 pm in April.

What to pack

We were traveling light and considered just taking one pair of very comfortable shoes, and are glad we didn't. I wear Ecco sandals, which are so comfortable you could run in them, but after walking throught these extremely hilly towns and doing hundreds of stairs each day, it felt good to put your feet into a different form that night or the following day.

Must see

Mamma Agata cooking school in Ravello. Outstanding value. Excellent time. Cannot say enough about this experience.

Shopping

Ravello has incredible ceramic stores with merchandise not found in the other towns. Get one store to ship all your purchases to save $.

“we went just for three nights four our honemoon and we would love to go back sometime!”

It was a wonderful experience staying at the Palazzo. The view, having breakfast at the patio, the service, everything just perfect.

Area recommendations

If possible, rent a car and drive through the Amalfi coast, Praiana and Amalfi. If you wont more people, visit Sorrento. Is beautiful also but more noisy.

“Conveniently located”

After our stay in Sorrento, we were looking forward to visiting Positano. The Palazzo Murat is conveniently located with a very helpful and professional staff. The garden rooms in the new part of the hotel are spacious, clean and simply furnished. Because we went during the first week of October, I did not think a pool was an important feature, however the weather was warm and without a pool or view (which we were aware of when we booked), we really missed relaxing and enjoying the fabulous scenery. We were able to spend some time sitting at the beach and feel that the location of the hotel was a plus. If you like shopping and the beach, this is the place for you.

“Perfect location”

I had been to Positano once before and stayed way way up high. I had always wanted to stay right in the heart of the little town but couldn't have asked for a better location. This hotel is beautiful! The restaurant is beautiful, rooms are very large and clean, front desk is helpful, breakfast is great. I cannot say enough. This was one of our favorite hotels of the whole trip. And you walk out the door and are right in the midst of the shops and restaurants. It was a very relaxing stay.

Positano, Italy: A desirably picturesque tourist haunt, Moorish-style houses cling to Positanos steep hillsides. Its a pleasant walk down to the small grey beach and fishing harbour via narrow, flower-decked alleyways and steps, but the return journey takes some effort (luckily theres a bus). A domed church is Positanos main landmark. The town celebrates the Feast of the Assumption on 15th August by re-enacting a famous victory against the Saracens.
