Unique Sleeps: The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres, Mexico
Unique Sleeps: Amazing hotels hand picked by Expedia Experts. The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres All Inclusive, Mexico.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always associated Cancun with college kids partying it up on Spring Break. That’s why I went on a quest to see if the northeast of Mexico could actually be done in a totally different way – with relaxation, escapism and indulgence in mind.
My search took me to The Beloved Hotel, Playa Mujeres, located roughly thirty minutes from Cancun Airport. This boutique luxury resort is an all inclusive hotel, and showed me a side of the region that was very different to the party town atmosphere Cancun is known for. With an open mind and an eagerness to soak in the Caribbean summer, I checked into an ocean view villa.
The Suites
The rooms are welcomingly large, with a beachside influence that’s fresh and warm, with plenty of space for visitors to relax in their own suites. They’re designed to be lived in, rather than a typical hotel room designed just for sleeping. Each room is equipped with one of the most well-stocked mini bars I’ve ever seen – full, unopened bottles and plenty of snacks are at your disposal, along with 24 hour room service from a menu that rivals most hotel restaurants.
All suites come with standard televisions, appliances and work stations, but one major difference are the incredible bathrooms. The two person showers feature rainforest shower heads, with additional jets lining the walls in a space that begs for a long session at the end of a day of paddleboarding and swimming in the ocean. Guests are also treated to a selection of Bvlgari bathroom products.
Along with an extremely comfortable indoor Jacuzzi (with ocean view), some villas boast an outdoor plunge pool or private tub. Combine that with a cocktail and chips and guacamole, you can’t go wrong.
The Spa
If you’re able to pull yourself away from your suite, I’d really recommend checking out The Beloved Hotel’s day spa. Try the “Sacred Earth Massage” – a massage that aims to refresh the body and soul and re-stabilise the vibrations and harmonies in our lives. The treatment also includes use of the hydrotherapy centre, which, in itself is a luxuriously relaxing experience. Guests are guided through a series of treatments in a wonderfully large and tranquil pool, with the aim of a full body and mind preparation for their massage or treatment. The service by the staff is second to none and the facility itself is one of the most incredibly beautiful settings I’ve ever seen for a day spa.
The Restaurants
I’ve always had reservations about all inclusive hotel restaurants, with the assumption that the quality of food and drink wouldn’t be high. I have to come out from the start and state that The Beloved Hotel’s food was some of the best hotel cuisine I’ve ever experienced. From fresh local seafood (lobster tails to scallops), vegetarian options, authentic Mexican foods and some of the most decadent desserts you could dream of, there’s something for everyone. The resort has four restaurants to choose from, along with additional bars and lounges, a sushi and ceviche bar, and beachside food options. Each venue has particular dining specialties – from the traditional Mexican cuisine of Lupita Restaurant (the Mexican coffee and desserts alone make it worth a visit!), to the stunning ocean views of the beachfront El Mar Restaurant.
The Experience
The Beloved Hotel is a perfect Caribbean escape for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing retreat. The all-inclusive nature is incredible value for money, and it’s a brilliant experience for both the foodies looking to try quality Mexican cuisine, and those who’d rather just sit by the bar for the hotel’s tequila tasting sessions. The staff are exceptional and will go out of their way to accommodate any extra needs, from room service, to special anniversary and honeymoon requests. There’s always something to do, be it going for a dip in the crystal clear waters of the hotel front ocean, keeping fit on the beach or in the state of the art fitness centre, or getting pampered in their magnificent day spa – but there’s always the option of just doing nothing at all. And, at this particular place, when you’re surrounded by such a breathtaking landscape with the beautiful warm waters of the ocean on your doorstep, that option is a perfectly acceptable one.
