Five Wedding Night Hotels in Sydney
Your wedding day is always a whirlwind – makeup, hair, dress, the actual event, the photos, the party, the after party – it’ll be gone in a flash. You spend months planning every detail but what about the wedding night? Here’s my favourite five hotels for a wedding night in Sydney.
Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay
Nothing says luxury like a brand new hotel and the Intercontinental Double Bay makes a perfect wedding night option. Sleek grey marble fittings and modern blue and grey décor – this hotel is for the couple that loves the decadence of yesteryear with the modern touches of today. With incredible views from the rooftop terrace (perfect for your morning-after breakfast), the gin bar Stillery (after party location anyone?) and the Stockroom for a decadent brunch – this hotel has all you can ask for.
After a seven-hour international flight, nothing was sweeter than walking into our room and seeing that fluffy white huge King bed waiting for us. The automatic blinds closed (it’s the little things), the marble bathroom lit up (auto sensing lights), and the rainfall shower head never felt so darn good. Sadly we didn’t make use of the huge flat screen TV, because those pillows led us straight to the land of nod (you might have better luck! Especially if you make use of the well stocked mini bar, which contains more luxe champagne than you can poke a stick at).
Waking up the next day was no less sweet – the in-room Nespresso machine kicked into gear for the early morning caffeine hit and the blinds opened with a touch of that bedside button before we hit the downstairs restaurant Stockroom to fill our bellies. The buffet is groaning with sweet pastries, fresh fruit, cereal fixings and hot dishes (like wagyu beef sausages) while eggs and coffee can be ordered any way you like.
As the hotel is literally in the heart of Double Bay, we soon decided to walk off our breakfast with a walk to the water (literally a minute) and a trip to the nearby boutiques before returning to our room for another nap. It was all in the name of research after all!
Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the bay to make the most of that stunning view.
QT Sydney
I consider myself (self deprecatingly) somewhat of a QT ‘getting ready for a wedding’ expert) having done so here twice.
The hotel is full of surprises – from the quirky personalised elevator music to the essentials for an espresso martini in each room and the oh-so-well equipped mini bar. With its modern, eclectic décor (including installations created by David Bromley) this hotel is for the lovers who want a boutique hotel feel without compromising on luxury.
Located literally in the heart of the city right across from the Queen Victoria Building, and with the excellent Gowings Restaurant on site, there’s no reason that the QT couldn’t extend your wedding night stay into your very own staycation.
Room Tip: Ask for Junior Suite on the Gowings side. The original wooden floors and the New York loft style feeling makes a perfect space to get ready for your wedding day and the ambiance a perfect vibe for your wedding night.
Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney
If a classic hotel experience is your style, then the Shangri-La surely delivers. Undoubtedly some of the best views of Sydney Harbour (and one of the first hotels I ever stayed in in Sydney) this 565 room hotel has fantastically appointed rooms with everything from triple glazed sound proof windows to flat screen TVs, a pillow menu and separate showers and baths.
Slip into your soft Shangri-La robe while enjoying that view (because no matter where you are in this hotel, you’ll get an amazing one) and if you’re after a nightcap then there’s no better way to enjoy one than with the view from Blu bar on 36.
Room Tip: If you can splurge, a Horizon Club Grand Harbour View is the way to go. Not only does it have two windows for your Sydney Harbour viewing pleasure but one divine soaking tub for you to unwind in. It’s also on the club floor – these upper levels offer complimentary food and drinks all day long and come with exclusive, newly renovated Horizon Club level only privileges like express check in (a must for weary newlyweds).
Blue Sydney
Can’t bear being far from the water? Blue Sydney, set right on Woolloomooloo wharf is the ultimate hotel for the water babies and lovers of all things modern and industrial.
There are no marble floors and gilded gold fixtures here. This is the place with exposed beams, corrugated iron walls and truly pays homage to its converted warehouse heritage.
With a plethora of amazing restaurants at its doorstep (not to mention the beautiful Waterbar and Blue Café on site) there’s not far to go to be in the thick of it all. The rooms themselves are all slightly different, each with its own character and a king sized bed, flat screen TVs and iPod docks even down to an ipad to access services across the hotel.
Room Tip: The luxury marina view king room is the one to book for your wedding night. The sparkling lights provide a panoramic view from your king sized bed also accompanied by a deluxe bath and shower.
Four Seasons Sydney
The grand lady of all hotels in Sydney, the Four Seasons Sydney is never one to sneeze at when it comes to a special night of luxury. And luxury at this hotel comes in spades.
Enjoy a drink at Grain bar before slipping away to the one of the hotel’s 531 rooms, each decorated in chic neutral décor (with the softest of Egyptian cotton sheets) but with all the technology you’ll need – 42-inch flat screen TVs, iPod connectivity, espresso machines and high speed internet access.
Room Tip: A newlywed couple can’t go past the Club Full Harbour View Junior Suite with separate living room, marble bath tub and espresso machine. Choosing the Club floor means access to a full buffet breakfast, all day refreshments and complimentary Internet while enjoying that four window panoramic view of Sydney Harbour.
