Honolulu’s Healthiest Hot Spots
Hawaii is a holiday destination we’ve really grown to love. A ten-hour night flight from Auckland has you landing in Honolulu ready for a stunning Hawaiian morning. With the time difference being nearly 24 hours behind, it leaves you largely jet lag free and ready to hit the ground running (or in our case, shopping and eating). There are so many things to do and if you prefer to go on holiday and laze by the pool doing absolutely nothing, this is also the perfect place for you.
Favourite Eateries in Honolulu
BILLS: Sydney’s superstar eatery has opened in Waikiki, and Bills is a must-visit when you’re there. I would highly recommend the hot cakes and corn fritters. You can’t go wrong with either.
NOBU: The world famous Japanese restaurant chain Nobu is my top pick for fresh fusion Japanese food. Pricy but worth every cent! Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, shiitake mushroom salad, salmon skin salad, Kurobuta pork belly with spicy miso, Organic chicken Yakimono and Sashimi tacos… So fresh, nourishing and the flavour combinations are out of this world.
HEAVENLY CAFÉ: If you’re after a healthy meal and a decent coffee, Heavenly is the place to make a beeline for. We’d eat here every morning, ordering the omelette, green juice and acai bowl.
RUFFAGE NATURAL FOODS: If you’re vegan or vegetarian this is the spot for you. Nothing too fancy, simple wholefoods that are nourishing. Our pick is the Vegan Chilli Dog.
HIBLEND HEALTH BAR AND CAFÉ: Smoothies, juices, health shots, acai bowls… HiBlend is amazing! The menu is huge and all the meals are bursting with colour. The Apple Pecan Salad is a personal favourite.
DIAMOND HEAD COVE HEALTH BAR: A good place to stop for a bite to eat after you have walked up Diamond Head, Diamond Head Cove Health Bar has fresh fish, salads, smoothies and juices. You must try the Carob Peanut Butter smoothie!
If you feel like burning off all that food, here are my top activities to sweat it out in Honolulu.
DIAMOND HEAD: This is a must do! Wake up before sunrise and make your way to Diamond Head (an extinct volcano) by car. It’s best to get there as early as possible as this place gets BUSY! Take a camera and water bottle; you don’t want to miss out on a sunrise selfie opp. It takes approximately one hour to reach the summit.
SURFING LESSONS: The waves on Waikiki beach are perfect for first-time surfers as they’re relatively small and there’s never any undertow. Surfing is something we always do when in Hawaii as you get an amazing overall body workout plus tan in one. Check Expedia to book private or group surfing lessons.
YOGA: Most hotels in Honolulu offer yoga lessons at either sunrise or sunset. There are also private classes held in desirable places to give you a stunning view of the beach. Sunset Yoga Hawaii offers fantastic yoga just as the sun sets – it’s the perfect way to bliss out before cocktails and dinner!
