The hotel is in a great location but was disappointed in my room. The closet was more like a cupboard and I had to get creative on hanging my clothes. There is no chest for drawers. The lighting switches are confusing but figured them out. Even on the full lighting, the room is dim. The staff was great.

I stayed there 30 years ago while dating my now wife of 30 years. I wanted the nostalgia of returning to Manhattan and enjoying the cool atmosphere of the Royalton and revisit the awesome 5 foot soaking tub. There was only problem. The only thing that has been changed in 3 decades is the color of the hallways. Let me start by saying the staff was great. Very friendly and accommodating. The night manager was very helpful when suggesting where to get ice cream at 11pm he even knocked so.e money off when I mentioned our celebration. That being said, the place needs a major overhaul. The tub in our first room was draining water making soaking challenging as we were losing water fast. After a engineer had no fix they moved us to a different room with hesitation. The newer rooms tub was better , but the main rug was repaired and buckled. Not a great fix. The upholstery on the window bench was full of stitching as attempted repairs. The glass countertop in the bathroom was cracked and patched with clear tape. No coffee pot as in most hotels all though we were offered free water when came and went. I had read reviews that matched my experience, but I wanted the nostalgia which we did have. Along with the dated, well worn dessicated hotel. Sorry Royalton. My memories were better left that way.

Would we recommend or stay at PUBLIC Hotel again? No. Firstly, be prepared to have an additional $45 a night charge given to you at the end of your stay for 'All Access'... when asked what this was, the staff could not explain to a satisfactory standard what it was exactly for. Room: Very clean and tidy, good view, some noise from outside (ie sirens etc) but not as noisy as anything midtown, no noise heard from neighbouring rooms AC didn't work and it was hot! Electric binds and drapes worked well to block out light but overly complicated. No Tea/Coffee facilities Shower was decent. Staff: Different each time, not the most helpful, got overwhelmed quite easily and provided misinformation more than once, however, not having to tip someone to move your bags the last 20 metres on a 4,000 mile trip was a win. Hotel: Visually very nice, however, at this time works going on meant plenty of closed off areas. Lower hotel bar and cafe rarely open when we wanted it, we had no food or drinks there because of this, Roof top bar was good but very expensive (£140 for 4 drinks and two small 'pub side meals') and again, it just seemed like the staff didn't care. Location: Nice area, subway is about a 30 second walk and will get you to anywhere you want to go, nice coffee shop on the corner to start your day with and a short walk to Little Italy, one subway stop to get to the DUMBO area of Brooklyn and 5 stops the other way to get to the middle of mid town,
