About this property
Hinds House - Three Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 6
Set within the historic Castle Howard Estate, Hinds House offers a rare opportunity to stay in a beautifully restored listed cottage that forms part of the estate’s original fortified deer park walls. Rich in character and heritage, this distinctive home combines centuries of history with thoughtful amenities, creating a memorable setting for families, friends and anyone seeking an authentic Yorkshire escape. Originally believed to have been designed for the gamekeeper by renowned Yorkshire architect John Carr, Hinds House occupies one of the estate’s striking turret structures. Inside, this 3-bedroom cottage has been sympathetically renovated, showcasing antiques from Castle Howard alongside replicas of original wallpapers from the estate archives. Traditional features such as the kitchen’s Aga and the living room’s wood burning stove bring warmth and atmosphere, whilst modern amenities have also been considered. One of the home’s most distinctive highlights is the master bedroom’s turret bathroom, where a freestanding copper bath creates a truly special space to unwind after a day of exploration. The enclosed garden provides a wonderful place to relax and enjoy barbecues on the patio, with glorious vistas towards Castle Howard’s iconic Mausoleum and Pyramid. You can stroll to Castle Howard itself - guests enjoy one complimentary day pass to the house and grounds during your stay. Beyond the estate, Hinds House is ideally located for exploring North Yorkshire. Discover the independent shops and restaurants of Malton, the historic charm of Helmsley and Pickering, and the dramatic landscapes of the North York Moors. York’s medieval streets and renowned attractions are within easy reach, while the Yorkshire coast, including Whitby, Scarborough and Filey, offers memorable days by the sea within an hour’s drive.
