Overall Good Stay
Amazing little cottage. We struggled to get the fire to light, the shower had low water pressure (not their fault) few of the bits were unfinished, was a little dirty under the sink. However.... left us with Milk, bread, eggs, tea bags, sugar, butter. Sofa and bed was comfortable. We will be staying there again hopefully on our next trip to york. Pub closes quite early next door so dont 100% rely on getting there at 10pm and getting food, but Uber Eats works well there. Overall a solid 9/10 from me.

Cold when we arrived but soon warmed up. Nice size apartment, very nice to have milk, bread, eggs and butter in the kitchen for us to use. Easy walk to the bus stop for the bus to York, and we also had a nice meal in the Blacksmith arms. Thank you

Perfect Retreat for Dog Owners
The cottage is quirky and my little dog loved it. The village is pretty and the hotel next door serves nice food. The cottage has everything you need but an investment in a new bed and sofa would be chef’s kiss.

Good location- needed some tender loving care
Bed was very uncomfortable Layer of dust under bed . Only one bedside table Two seater sofa was very worn Shower room must have had new toilet cistern and wasn’t painted up to new. Shower pressure bad Kitchen smelt and just not up to date! Whole cottage full of spiders webs. Couldn’t use small table and chairs as they were not safe- not screwed together properly. Small TV was damaged. It was lovely to have bread , eggs , butter and small jug of milk so thank you for that.

Short break. Lovely cosy cottage
Just spent a lovely few days in the Blacksmiths Cottage. We had a Lovely welcome from Fay the housekeeper who keeps the cottage spotless. Plenty hot water, comfy bed and all you need for a stay here. Sadly pub wasn't open for 2 of the days but we had the beer garden to ourselves 😊. Had a lovely meal on our last night cooked by Gary who was very welcoming and friendly. Thanks Gary. Tom, behind the bar was so nice and very pleasant. Great base for touring around this part of Yorkshire. Thanks guys..... Liz and Dave

We enjoyed our stay at the Blacksmiths Arms. Its cosy and in a lovely village location. We didn't use the pub itself. The cottage has pretty much everything you need for a break.Kitchen has all you need and the bread, milk, butter and eggs were a nice touch.A word to the wise, the WiFi doesn't reach the cottage. Close to park and ride which I would thoroughly recommend. We would definitely stay again.

Although bed is under the eves it is very comfortable. The staff in the pub are very friendly and yhe food is amazing, especially the pie. All the food is homemade and cooked to order. The cottage is few miles from park & ride at the designer outlet so easy to get into York.

Barn stay.
We picked the keys up from the bar. Lovely lady showed us the barn. Very helpful and even gave us a loaf of bread to go with the eggs and butter provided. We ate Sunday roast at the pub. Delicious and proper Yorkshire servings. Recommend the food. Thanks to the staff There is a school behind the barn. But was closed when we were there so no noise.

In a lovely location and only a few miles from York centre. Loved the traditional charm of the cottage and leaving bead, eggs, butter and fresh milk for guests to use was a nice touch. The kitchen is well equipped and found the bed to be very comfortable.

Great little property in a fab location. Anthony was also very friendly and the welcome pack was a very nice touch. They also placed balloons as it was my birthday, nice. The only slight issues are it needs a bit of a refurb including redecoration and the shower pressure was low. We would definitely come back.

Cute little cottage. Parking directly outside. Lovely village on the River. Has everything you would require in the cottage, though could really do with some updating. Nice idea with the welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs and butter. Tea coffee and sugar already there too. Enjoyed our stay for 3 nights

A bit meh!!!
The location is perfect and the cottage could be amazing... but it isn’t. The shower doesn’t work properly. you have to fiddle with the front door lock to open it (45 seconds in the pouring rain is a long time). The whole place smells musty. The bed is uncomfortable and you can only get in and out from one side.

Loved the quirkyness of the the cottage and the welcome pack was great only concern was the shower which the landlord was aware of as the door had been damaged by a previous resident. Would recommend the place to anyone as it's really easy to get into York and other nearby attractions.

Great place for 2 close to York. Good for pets
We wanted to visit the North York area and this was a perfect base. This place is well worth a visit, especially if you are a dog owner (and if not, don't worry. It isn't doggy. It's kept very clean) Log burner ready made up and a pub with good food and good ale just across the car park. You get tea/coffee/REAL coffee/milk/eggs/butter all provided on arrival. I would say the settee is small but it is clean and tidy like the rest of it. Bed is comfy (and that's coming from someone with a bad back). (and to the owners; if you know who owns the Mustang and thinks the car park is a high speed dirt track, please ask them to look out for dogs and turn down the stereo. we could hear it inside)

Comfortable and relaxing weekend
Appropriately equipped private kitchen with tea/ coffee provided. Shower in small bathroom. Need to provide your own toiletries but soft towels and bathrooms provided. Comfortable bed on mezzanine floor. Sloping roof might be a problem to someone very tall. You can only get out of the bed one side so choose carefully! Excellent food in adjacent pub, though service was slow on Saturday night; we were told about this by the staff however. Good varied menu with top quality home cooked food. Nice quiet village location. Busy at the weekend so would advise pre- booking of table.

Good base for couple of days
The cottage is very cosy and confortable. It was clean and essential groceries were waiting for us on arrival. Generally the facilities are good, furniture comfortable, kitchen reasonably equiped, bathroom good etc. One small critiism would be that the fitting of the older type of energy saving bulbs in places like the bathroom is not a brilliant idea! They take 10mins to reach full brightness so "short visits" are done in very dim lighting! But this is only a small point. Parking was good, the staff in the pub helpful when we arrived - although we did seem to come as a bit of a "surprise" to them! I would strongly suggest ringing them up a day or two before hand to confirm your visit. All in all a good base for a weekend in the York area. I my view the cottage is a bit small to be really comfortable for a week, but for a short stay its excellent. I recommend it.

Convenient for York, however .....
Loved the friendly helpful staff who met us, Jordan particularly helpful. On the down side; only sofa not comfortable, electric shower very difficult to control and bed is small double. We found it difficult to find anywhere in village to walk with our dog which was also frustrating.
