Room and bathrooms are pretty old. I saw mold in the bathroom. They try to keep it clean. Staff are very friendly. Food is ok in the tropical, but in the Caribbean, food is excellent. My kids love the pool with the slide. Overall the hotel is ok.

After a rocky start upon arrival (previously detailed), the staff stepped up and helped to provide us with the experience that we expected and more. Olivia (assistant manager at the front desk at Barcelo maya tropical) (and others incl Ishmael and Yuliana) were awesome. Olivia worked with us to get our dinners set up and really was the difference in making our stay great). One thing to know is that there are 4 properties, all together and all the rooms are pretty much the same. So if you get there and they put u in a different location (we were booked at tropical but they placed us t colonial), it doesn’t matter. It’s just next door. Everything is walking distance and if yo are further from one thing,u are closer to another.

Hotel property is beautiful. Beds are comfortable. Beach was very nice and well maintained with the seaweed. However! The restaurant situation is ridiculous. We checked in, went to make reservations and there was NOTHING available for any night we were there. Nothing. We stayed 5 nights and had zero opportunity to have a nice sit down, non buffet, meal. For what we paid to stay there? Restaurants were very small and could not accommodate many people. Very poorly planned for this large of a resort. Also, pay extra for mini golf? Pay extra for waterpark? Pay extra for go carts? What? Why not just include it all in the package? Who wants to keep paying for every little extra thing? People go to all inclusive for it to be ALL INCLUSIVE. Everything else, I thought was pretty good.

we traveled here as a family of three. The place was very nice. Unfortunately the tough part was that you cannot make reservations after you arrive. There’s never anything available unless you want to eat at 9 PM. The pools were amazing, my son loved the splash pad. The beach is absolutely beautiful. The food was decent at the buffet. I can’t really speak for the other restaurants because we unfortunately weren’t able to make reservations. The rooms were nice. If you have a little one, turning around the couch, turns into a perfect toddler bed..
