"Casita de Joyas was a perfect spot to explore the Riviera Maya with my kids for the week. I wanted to find something different from the resort scene, and this house was in a great location. We were close enough to the things we wanted to see and do without being inundated with tourists when we got home at the end of the day. The casita is clean, adorably decorated, and has everything you need for comfort. The owner had great communication and was extremely helpful in giving us local knowledge tips for the area. Highly recommended!"

"We had a wonderful experience at Jungle Lodge hotel. It was a very tranquil and beautiful jungle experience. The bird songs in the morning are wonderful. Very attentive staff. It was a nice escape from the party towns of Tulum and Playa del carmen. Best to have a rental car unless you dont mind walking or paying a steep fee for taxis. Its very secluded. "

"Property is kept very clean & mostly very well organized. Most of the staff is super friendly. Enforcing dress codes based on gender seems quite outdated & inappropriate especially when it’s a matter of a short sleeve vs no sleeves. "

"Love the quiet secluded location. The room ts clean and well-kept, and the bathroom is fine with a great shower. Don't like the lack of shade curtains or shutters on the windows. And the light fixtures are awful - it's not nice to have only the bright overhead glare of a bare CFL bulb in your eyes when in bed. I.e. bedside lamps should be provided, or at least some kind of wall or ceiling bounce light"

"Our family of 4 stayed in Chan Chemuyil for a month. We were in a lovely rental about a block away but had to suddenly move due to construction. This place was available and the host, Marina, kindly let us check in 2hrs early. Our issues: 1) We were warned that some rain water had leaked under the door. This was a massive understatement. Upon arrival, the floor had been mopped so the walking area appeared dry. In truth, the leaking into the home was so severe it had gone all the way across the room and had soaked the bottom of the couch (which had collapsed fabric underneath, causing the whole underside to absorb water). There were no rugs in the house, the floor was quite slippery where wet, and a house towel was left to absorb water and was already soaked full. I contacted the host and she suggested we use more house towels to absorb continuing water from both the front and back doors. *Note - this is June, rainy season. I was shocked at how poorly prepared this home was. Some befriended neighbors said the rainy weather was typical and only lasted 3 days, off-and-on, in a month. Over the week we booked, the mildew smell grew under the couch and we used up most of the bath/beach towels for absorbing water and walking on so we wouldn't slip and fall. 2) In Mexico, it's not safe to drink tap water. 5 gallon Drinking Water jugs were there but empty except for one that was left uncapped, half full, and smelled green. We had Zero drinking water provided to us and had just come from a rental that had 7 jugs provided. The closest water is in Ciudad Chemuyil, a 15-20min walk. 3) The pool is awesome. We enjoyed it as much as at our previous rental. The tiled area around it and the rooftop tiles get extremely slippery when wet! Very dangerous for adults and kids. I told the host about this. 4) Be aware that this listing says 4 people but they charge extra daily fees for beyond 2 people. That is not clear anywhere in the listing so I feel it's worth being shared. I mentioned this to the host. IMO, it's already overpriced compared to other rentals in the neighborhood. I hope they update the listing and make mention of that. 5)The beach is a 20-25min walk and across a major highway with no real crossing or sidewalks. We successfully did it twice but was terrifying w kids. Worth being shared. 6) There are no beach bars or ruins anywhere w/in walking distance. Overall, we were grateful for the last minute booking but this place needs a lot more care."

"This small, simple, functional place had enough space for my family of 5 to spread out just a bit. Just what we needed for sleeping arrangements, ability to cook a few of our own meals, have a little down time, and wifi for a little schoolwork while we were away! We loved the iguana, but never could coax him down for a visit. Helene was great to communicate with and this was a really quiet, friendly and safe feeling neighborhood with a great location for so many activities. Loved it!"

"After 3 days at a resort in Playa del Carmen for our son's wedding, my husband and I spent 5 nights in this great little house. This place was much more our style. Located in a quiet neighborhood, we had a very relaxing stay. It was comfortable, clean, and everything we needed was provided. We found snorkel gear, beach chairs and a sun umbrella which were perfect for hanging out at Xcacel beach. The best part of the house from our perspective? The patio out back with the great little pool. I loved taking a dip in it to cool off, or just sitting on the side as I read my book. It's located a quick drive from Tulum or Akumal. We took advantage of the kitchen for our breakfast and lunch, then had dinner in Chemuyil or Akumal. Marina did a great job of communicating with us in preparation for our stay and while we were there."
