Explore the solar system, the deep sea or ancient history at Liverpool’s premier natural history museum.

Liverpool’s natural history museum is an enthralling and family-friendly destination for exploring the outer limits of space, ancient history and the world of dinosaurs. The World Museum has played a significant role in Liverpool’s cultural heritage since 1851 and remains one of the most popular destinations in the city. Explore the museums three main sections: natural history, human history and space. Highlights include the museum’s state-of-the-art planetarium and aquarium.

Spend an afternoon at the museum exploring its five floors of exhibitions. See a vivid digital projection of the moon at the planetarium before exploring the solar system, all from the comfort of your chair.

Meet aquatic species from around the world at the museum’s aquarium. Tropical scorpion fish, bright orange clownfish and many species that call the mangroves their home are all on display here. See local species that live around Liverpool’s shores, such as the thornback ray and plaice. Have an even closer encounter with the sea life through special microscopes.

The museum also has rare fossil specimens and ancient Egyptian artefacts on display. See an enormous dinosaur skeleton cast or head to the fifth floor to see a meteorite from Mars that landed in Africa in the 1960s. Younger visitors are sure to love the Bug House, a special exhibit featuring spiders, beetles and scorpions both native and exotic.

The World Museum is located in Liverpool’s city centre and can conveniently be reached by car or metro system. Park at the pay-and-display car park behind the museum. Admission to the museum is free and it is open every day except Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
