Oh dear oh dear - this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever visited. What a disgrace, especially given its proud history, prestige and landmark presence in the city. I honestly thought that places like this had died out in the 1960's. Where do I begin? Well from the moment you arrive, you are greeted by the tatty entrance and torn carpets, chipped and faded paintwork, from which you then proceed to experience the surly and unhelpful attitude of the hotel staff as you check in - particularly you Oskar, and another of your male colleagues (the girls were significantly better). Here you are made to feel like an inconvenient intrusion, certainly not a valued customer. No flicker of a smile, or a welcome, and a studious attempt to avoid any sort of eye contact. Any additional information about parking, etc, had to be prised out with great reluctance and resistance on the part of the staff. The hotel car park on a bomb site behind the building, is an exorbitant £13/day. The whole building is in a generally shabby condition. A sign in the entrance lobby indicated afternoon teas, but there was no evidence to support this claim, and since it was 11.30am I assume this had been left up overnight. The carpet in the lift had stains and what looked like chewing gum trod into it, while my room on the 4th floor featured dingy lighting, a chrome/glass table so wobbly it was impossible to even write on, a 1970's style bathroom with water leaking from shower, a broken towel rail...
