This was our second time staying at Sugar Shack and we'll certainly be back! It's secluded but also conveniently located to Cave Run, RRG, and Carter Caves.
Quaint and peaceful! We enjoyed our stay. Stairs to the bed room are steep but we are also are not in our 20's anymore. LOL. Also enjoyed being relatively close to the lake. We would make a return trip!
We loved the cabin. There is a neighbor right across the road but we only saw him the first day. It has a nice mountain setting. We were relatively close to the parks.
One disadvantage, the closest food store is a Dollar General. You have to drive over 10 miles to find a real grocery store.
We were very happy with the cabin. As soon as we arrived my son's and I were in love with the character of the cabin. It's like a Hansel and Gretel house. And the decor made us feel like we were visiting my grandma's house. Very clean, secluded, well stocked, fun games to play and the tiny little porches upstairs are perfect for coffee. It was so easy to contact them with any questions and they were prompt to reply even though we were there fourth of July weekend.
This cabin is in a little cabin subdivision of sorts, so there are others nearby but it is quiet and peaceful, the cabin is perfect for 2 to 4 people, beds are comfy and the kitchen had just enough to get by for a week or so. TV and internet worked perfectly and the neighbors little dog is a sweetheart. Located near the Cave Run Lake and boat ramps within minutes. We went for a walk in the neighborhood and met several full timers one of which gave us a grand tour on his golf cart which was nice. So if you want a get away that feels remote but not really I recommend the Sugar Shack, PS the old viny record collection and player was awesome.
The cabin was very clean and stocked with everything we needed for a weekend getaway. We had a bit of trouble finding it at first due to poor cell signal (which we expected since we knew it was in the boonies.) Our first night the keypad wouldn't unlock so we could enter the cabin, the property manager responded quickly but it did take a while for maintenance to arrive (again, boonies.) They were very kind and got the issue fixed quickly. We had a great time and thought it was such a cool, ecclectic cabin (great games, some movies, and vinyls!)

Not as great as we hoped
Looks better in pictures than in person. :(
Floors and stairs are uneven. Furniture could use update. Need better lamps/lighting. Had issues getting heat going, but emailed with office and figured it out.
Definitely need a posted note indicating how to turn on things and which remote controls what.
Expected cabin to be more remote, but neighbors nearby.
Beds were comfy. TV was nice. Kitchen had everything we needed.
thank you for having us - we had a relaxing time. The games/puzzles and kitchen staples were so nice to have. Some feedback would be to update the exact pin location to make it easier to find in the dark. Also the neighbors Doberman ran infront of our car on the street and wouldnât let us proceed on the route.. it was territorial and barking and the neighbor on the porch didnât seem to care about getting the dog from blocking us. We were finally able to get to the driveway but it came and circled our car for about 5 minutes. This happened again when we returned on night 2. It peed on our car and wandered the property and we snuck in. Without knowing if itâs a nice dog it was actually kind of alarming and frustrating. you can see on any front cam footage ~6:30pm both nights. Also didnât bother us but we saw a mouse in the kitchen (ran into the small crack to the right of the coffee machine). We kept all food away for the remainder of our stay.
Quaint rustic cabin nestled in the trees at the end of the property. Very clean and had plenty of kitchen suppliesâŚmany more than youâll needâŚ15 wine glasses, a dozen plates, 15+ coffee mugs. Lol. Generally very quiet and peaceful, until bedtime, when a small local dog that we affectionately named âPookeyâ barked nonstop every night until about 2am. Ask us how we know.
The nearest âcityâ is about 30 minutes away, and major attractions for hiking, fishing and boating may take an hour to reach, but well worth the drive. A picturesque and beautiful area of the country for sure.
I might recommend that instructions be available for lighting the propane heater. We didnât really need it but finally figure out how to light it on our own in case we did need it. Also, there were multiple remote controls throughout the cabin, and through trial and error we figured out how to work the TV and sound bar behind the TV. Having labels and instructions for those would be helpful.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, albeit we missed out on some sleep thanks to Pookey.
Enjoyable, but had no working smoke alarm and did not disclose a broken sliding door lock
This cabin was so cute and the perfect summer getaway for my partner and I, we enjoyed its proximity to hikes and were so happy with how clean it was and how well the wifi worked. However, upon arrival we found that the smoke alarm battery for the house was dying and beeping at us. We contacted customer service to confirm that we were allowed to take it out so it would cease beeping, but it wasn't the way we wanted to start our trip. I understand that with rental properties things like these can happen but the customer service rep did tell us it was reported to her already before we arrived, which made us uneasy about the possibility of our concerns being heard.
We were also disappointed that the fact that the slide door in the kitchen's lock was completely broken and that was not disclosed in the description of the property. There was a wood stopper to ensure it couldn't be opened from the outside but still made us very nervous when travelling to a completely new area. Overall, we enjoyed the place, but wish the experience was a bit more professional.
This was a great cabin with comfy beds, plenty of supplies-everything we needed to have a lovely time together. We spent most of the daytime hours exploring Natural Bridge and The Gorge, it was pretty perfect.
Great place for our visit to Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Kristen with Stay over Cabins was professional and extremely helpful. The cabin was clean and comfotable.
Really cool cozy place with great comfortable beds.
Downstairs living room/kitchen area is well thought out with great burly couches and cool decor.
They have a record player with a groovy selection of old Motown/ Bossanova vinyl on hand too!
Just fantastic!
