Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was extremely clean, charmingly decorated, and well maintained. Everything you could possibly need was provided. In the kitchen, there were utensils galore, tea, sugar, even a rice cooker. For a day at the beach, there were beach towels, beach mats, folding chairs, basic snorkeling equipment, umbrellas. There were even telescoping hiking poles for the requisite trip to Waimea Canyon. It was also great to have access to a washer and dryer. Definitely the best-stocked vacation rental we've ever stayed at.
Location-wise, the cottage is an easy drive to Waimea Canyon to the west and to Hanapepe (for sushi and Japanese Grandma's Cafe) to the east. From the cottage, we really liked being able to walk to Ishihara Market, where you can pick up fantastic poke. (Our favorite was the shoyu ahi tuna with a scoop of rice for under $10.) Other nearby food places that were great were the Mama Bear Kitchen Kauai for a Filipino breakfast of garlic fried rice with a perfectly fried egg and Da Java Hut for lattes.
As other reviewers have noted, the beach is not a place where you can swim or just hang out, and the restaurant nearby, as well as the neighbors' music, meant that it was a bit noisy as late as 10 pm, but we were so tired from our outings that we were still able to fall asleep.
