"Tamarindo is in the middle of a building boom and it was all around the hotel. They worked extra hard to make our stay comfortable and quiet. Lovely place with a fun and very helpful staff. Easy access to the beach and walkable for most of Tamarindo."

"All of the staff especially Maggie made my stay very comfortable. As a young traveler Maggie gave advice, safety tips, and fun activities. Whenever there was a transportation concern Maggie was right on top of it with solutions. The free coffee in the morning was a cherry on top. And the safety in a city was astonishing. I will for sure be staying here again and for anyone thinking of staying in Tamarindo pick this hotel! "

"I want to thank the team at Refugio for making my stay most welcoming and hospitable! Tucked in the heart of Tamarindo, the beach, nightlife, shopping, and best of restaurants are a short walk away. I was greeted by Juan and Agustin, who really made the stay feel at home. Great individuals who made sure I was at ease, comfortable and beyond. They were very communicative and ensured a peaceful stay. As soon as I arrived early, they made sure everything was accommodated and even let me check in early. The dinner + breakfast they provided on site as well was also PHENOMENAL. Their coffee shop may also be the best in tamarindo. The only thing you may be concerned about is the noise of the nearby clubs, but they even provide ear plugs. The rooms are clean and spacious, with large beds, clean bathroom, safe, fast Wifi and air conditioning. Overall the vibes were incredible and I would surely stay again. The hotel has everything you need for a stay in Tamarindo. While it isn’t a luxury all-inclusive, it offers everything else you need for a welcomed, comfortable stay. Thank you Refugio, I shall be back!"

Definitely recommend for a personal authentic stay

"We really enjoyed our stay. We are a family of four and we had the two bedroom apartment off the pool. The rooms have a rustic tropical vibe that is minimalist and clean. We did not try to cook so I can’t speak to those supplies. Linens were comfortable. Bathroom was pretty spacious actually for a small rental. Air conditioner worked well and the temperature was always comfortable. Pool was wonderful - kept quite clean and never too busy. We had a patio off the pool with a large spacious table and bench. We had the breakfast included option and it did not disappoint! They wait for you to wake up and come outside to the patio, where they’ve already set your table. The breakfasts were so good - cooked on the spot and lots of local traditional foods with local fruits and fresh smoothies. Definitely recommend! The hotel is on the small side, which gives it a very personal feel. It was like our own little private oasis in the heart of the town. Very walkable. A small group of staff were very kind and professional and helped whenever you needed anything. I would definitely stay again. Wifi is spotty, fyi"

"Property is situated at the top of the hill in tamarindo overseeing the beach from room balcony. While the hotel is not closer to town / beach, they have shuttles that would take you to the town and to another beach front resort where you can lounge, chill and enjoy the beach. Overall good place to stay! "

"This was by far our favourite vacation. The staff at this location were amazing! The bartenders, wait staff, chef, concierge and cleaning staff did absolutely everything possible to make our stay so wonderful. Our room was like something out of a dream. Private and yet social when we wanted. Location was best location. Short walk to all the shops and restaurants. 100/10. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fabulous vacation. Thank you Zula, Prescilla,Jimmy, Lourdes,Gio,Pablo for making our stay so memorable."
