"We had a superior room, which was very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant several times, and the food and drink was excellent. One evening we just enjoyed the cocktail bar, and the staff were fun! Breakfast buffet has everything one could want, and was always fresh. Free parking! You will have an uphill walk to the town centre, but no matter where you go in Siena it’s either up or down. Highly recommended."

"AMAZING! Beautiful location. Tuscany rolling hill views! If you are traveling with lots of luggage and/or toddlers, it's easier to take a taxi from Santa Maria Florence train station. There was an issue with WiFi that no one could figure out, google apps such as gmail, YouTube wouldn't work normally on my iPhone, it would only work through safari app. Will definitely come back next time we visit Italy."

Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais

"We spent a wonderful week at Borgo Scopeto and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. It has everything you'd hope for from a luxury Tuscan retreat: beautiful historic buildings, immaculately kept grounds, and a peaceful atmosphere full of character. The staff were warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling intrusive, and the food was consistently excellent. One of the biggest advantages is its location. Siena is only a short drive away - you can even see the city's campanile while having breakfast - so it was easy to combine days by the pool with exploring one of Tuscany's most beautiful cities (and, inevitably, a bit of shopping to keep our teenage daughter happy). A fantastic place to stay, and one we'd happily recommend."

"Where as we enjoyed our time here we did have a bit of an issue with our room temperature. We asked for it to be lowered as it was 81 degrees. We found out, after a very uncomfortable night and requesting 2 more times, that the AC was not working. As an aside: we could not open a window as our room was on the 1st floor and only had doors to a common area. We were moved to a new room. Other than that- the staff was lovely the pools and Spa are great. Location is wonderful with close proximity to the beach and some wonderful restaurants serving delicious seafood."

When is the best time to go to Volterra?
The best time to visit Volterra is during the shoulder seasons of April to June and September to October, when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are smaller.During these months, you'll find the Tuscan countryside at its most beautiful, with blooming wildflowers in spring and the rich colours of the harvest season in autumn. The temperatures are comfortable for exploring the town's Etruscan and Roman ruins, as well as enjoying leisurely walks through the historic centre. You'll also find it easier to book tables at popular trattorias and secure preferred accommodation. The summer months of July and August are also popular, offering warm, sunny weather ideal for enjoying outdoor activities and local festivals. However, these months can be quite busy, and temperatures can be high, particularly in the afternoons. If you don't mind the heat and the larger crowds, the summer provides a lively option with many cultural events. For those looking to avoid crowds entirely and experience a quieter side of Volterra, the winter months from November to March offer a more secluded experience. While some services might have reduced hours, you'll still find the town's museums and main attractions open.
